If you arrive in Melaka from the north, one of the first buildings worth to mention is the St Peter's Church. It was built in 1710 by descendants of the early Portuguese settlers.
It has stained-glass windows and a bell cast in Goa in 1608. Above the altar are the Latin words "Tu es Petrus" written.

Roaming around a Muslim city, it is always surprising to see a Catholic Church. Lucky enough to have seen this as this is the oldest in Malaysia. The structure is a combination of European and Asian architecture.

This well preserved church has retained its orginal Duth architecture since 1753, although the exterior has been give many different piant jobs thorough the years. Inside however the hand crafted pews and wooden beams remain a testimony to the Dutch heritage in Melaka.

Christ Church is situated near Jalan Laksamana and Jalan Gereja in Melaka city. This church was built in 1753 by Dutch to commemorate a century of their rule. It is reputed as the oldest protestant church in Malaysia. It is now an Anglican Church.
Christ Church is red in color because it was constructed with red bricks imported from Holland in the early days. The original purpose of this church is to announce the hour of the act of worship in the early days. The building shows the ingenuity of the Dutch architecture; the beams were constructed from cutting and carving from a single tree and have no joints. The hand-made pews dated back some 200 years.

Christ Church - The church stands on its original sight when it was built in 1753.
The pews are handmade and a unique thing with the ceiling is that the beams have no joints. There is a brass Bible and a tombstone which is written in Armenian and 'Last Supper' set out in glazed tiles.

On the Town Square, this XVIII century building is the largest church in Malacca. Its style is clearly colonial Dutch and, apparently, even the bricks were imported from Holland. Like the rest of the surrounding buildings, it is painted in a bright red colour.

Nice little square where you will find the Christ Church . From there is a walk upward to the older area where you can get a fantastic view of the harbour. The only standing gate of the city still remains here in Melaka. Close by is the replica of the King's palace all carved in wood.
You will get a lot of trishaws in front of Christ Church . For a photo op you will have to pay him. Mostly the trishaw riders are all old men so you feel really bad to hire them to ride you around town.
