 | Melaka Things To Do | Tips 401 - 410 of 684 | | Ryan & I visited this Chicken Rice Balls Restaurant at Melaka (Jonkers St.) after the camping trip to infamous Port Dickson beach. We’re totally intoxicated by over 1 dz of beers, 1x 75cl Absolut Vodka (neat, without ice). We suddenly felt the urge to eat some strange rice balls that we heard about & decided to check it out at Malaka City. Some friends told me that the other joint has nicer rice balls & that joint is the original creator of this rice balls thing. Leave a Comment

Ok, the first word out of everyone's mouths were: "Wow -- it's so red!" That is true. The Dutch must have loved the color crimson because everywhere you look, you'll see that color! To get here, just continue walking on Jonker Street, cross the really small bridge, and voila, you are in Dutch Square! Other sights in the area are: Stadthuys, Melaka Christ Church, and the post office. Stadthuys was the former residence of the governor of Melaka. Christ Church is a famous landmark of Melaka. It was built by the Dutch to commemorate 100 years of their colonial rule over Melaka. Cheng Hoon Teng temple is the oldest Chinese (buddhist) temple in the country. At one oint, the temple served as a city hall and a courthouse. While we were there, there were people praying and worshipping to the Goddess of Mercy (Kwan Yin.) She's the one in the centre (you can't miss it.) The temple itself is very small. You don't need to take your shoes off. The tour guide just went inside despite the little ceremony. She also kept on talking and no one seemed to mind. I found it quite disrespectful but due to the fact that none of the locals seemed annoyed, I guess what she did was ok or tolerated. We were the only tour group in that temple. In fact, I think we were the only tour group I saw the whole entire day we were there (from 12PM-4PM). On the surrounding temple grounds are other altars dedicated to other gods. In addition, there was a section where dead people put their little wooden tombstone. The guide said some of the wooden tombstones (really small) were really old (from the 1700s!) Visit the Stadthuys, which now houses rows of souvenior stall. There is also a museum and an area that showcases vintage vehicles, like an old fire-engine. Christ Church and a clock tower is beside The Stadthuys. There is also a fountain, where you can cool of and take a rest. There are some people with animals (like a big scary iguana) that you can take your photos with. Leave a Comment Address: Jalan Kota, MalaccaDirections: Foot of St. Paul's Hill.

A huge ship, which is now part of the maritime museum. Not too sure of it's seaworthiness now, but sure looks great. Leave a Comment Address: Jalan Quayside, along the river.Directions: Walkable distance from The Stadthuys

This is the site of the old Portuguese Fort . Unfortunately the only remaining structure of the fort is a Gate way. The hallmark of Melaka and perhaps the most photographed subject next to the Stadthuys. Built by the Portuguese in 1511 as a fortress it sustained severe structural damage during the Dutch Invasion. The British had set to destroy it but timely intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of A' Famosa today Sorry, I don't have a good photo of it to show you but if you go to this web link below you can see it.
