I arrived in Melaka at the Express Bus station, located 4km from the city centre, and therefore needed to catch a taxi as soon as I arrived. As soon as I got off the bus I was approached by a handful of accommodation touts and taxi drivers. I agreed a price of RM15 (approx 2.50 GBP / 3.75 Euros) for the 4km trip. My chosen taxi driver owned a rickety old car which spluttered along and made a strange grinding noise whenever it was in first gear - but it got me to where I wanted to be! As I hadn't obtained any Ringgits prior to leaving Singapore, the taxi driver was happy to drop me off at a bank with an ATM machine en-route. I left my luggage in the boot and trusted the driver not to drive away while I was gone - he didn't! (I had taken a mental note of the taxi number as well just in case he did - this is displayed clearly inside the taxi). The only other time I used a taxi in Melaka was for the return journey from my hotel to the Express Bus station a couple of days later to catch a bus to Kuala Lumpur. This time the journey was cheaper still, at just RM12. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Taking a bus to Melaka is fairly common place since the nearest train is some 38km away, in Tampin! If you're a taking a bus, you'll alight at the Sentral, a spanking new bus interchange outside of town . Do take note that there are many ticketing booths around the bus station and you can buy a bus ticket from Melaka to many other destinations in Malaysia. Here's a rough sample of the prices. Click the website for more details 1)KL , RM7.9-8.00 2.3h, hourly 2)KLIA(Serembau) RM6.8,hourly 3)Singapore, RM13-14.70 , (SVIP bus) RM15-17 If you don't like the inconvenience of buses, you can always take a cab at the Express Bus station. There is a bus going around town and stopping at all important sights. It works in the well known "hop on / hop off" way and it only cost you 2 RM for a day! One stop where red and blue line are stopping is in front of the Stadthyus. Check out the map and decide which line you wanna take. No rickshaw or taxi hassle and an airconditioned bus? Go for it! These fun looking trishaws are a huge sight around melaka town centre and are great fun to sit in and be shown melaka rather than walking around it. They often come with their own music so beware.. some look scarier than others hehe... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

You can catch this coach plying Singapore ~ Melaka at a fare of S$11 for ticket purchased in Singapore and M$11 for ticket purchased in Melaka. The Singapore route originates from Lavender Bus Terminal (walking distance from Lavender MRT Station) and ends at the new Melaka Sentral in Pringgit. The ride is pretty comfortable except that it stops for 20 minutes for coffee break and a refuel just 5 minutes before the journey ends. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

arrived at the Bus Sentral after 9 pm. and quickly walked over to the Domestic Bus terminal which is about two minutes away within the sam complex. I wanted to get to Hotel Puri as fast as possible and this time of the night, the bus would be as fast as the Taxi. The driver was an ageing Chinese and he directed me to the conductor. I explained I wanted to get to Hotel Puri near Jalan Hang Jebat, a man sitting next to him, said tome, I am going that way and I will show you the way. how kind of him. The bus is no 17 and it is at bay 6 at the domestic bus section. The fare is 80 cents malaysian whereas the taxi might cost close to 20 ringits malaysian. Within five minutes the bus discharged us in front of the stadhuys and from there was a short walk to Hotel Puri, with streets deserted eventhough it was not even ten pm yet.. The best way to enjoy Malacca in a slow and laid back manner. The trishaw will take you through streets and corners of Malacca that you could easily miss out if you decide to venture on your own. The trishaw can be rented on hourly or distance covered basis at The Stadthuys.
