Alor Gajah Town
  • Tip Rating:
  • The town of Alor Gajah is located to the north of Melaka city. Eventhough it is the main town for the district of Alor Gajah, it is often over looked by outsiders who will normally just pass by this town en-route to the historical city of Melaka. This is not suprising then as Alor Gajah town is just a small town with few row of shop houses (mostly pre-war buildings) and without much activities. It is a dead town and only come alive on weekend when the Sunday market is held here.

The main focal point of the town is its town square (Dataran Alor Gajah) where the Alor Gajah District Museum (Traditional Custom Museum) is located. In the vicinity of the museum are stalls selling souvenier and food, a monument and other recreational facilities.

Check out more on this town in my Alor Gajah page.

    Merlimau - paddy field

Melaka used to be an agricultural base state where paddy was planted in most villages here. However, since the 1980's the state focussed more on manufacturing and tourism as its main source of revenue.

Thus, its is a rare sight nowadays in Melaka to see paddy field as paddy are no longer planted in big scale as it used to be a few decades ago. However, in some of the villages in Merlimau you can still find the paddy field here.

    Asahan, Melaka
  • Tip Rating:
  • Not many people know this place except the locals. This is one of the mountain climbing paths for Gunung Ledang (Ophir) accessible from Asahan Melaka.

The trail was described to be quite tough & mostly ascend using roots & mostly muddy track.

The picture show the dam of Asahan & further in, you may find some nice waterfall mostly frequented by locals.

Where the beach has no name!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is one fishing village with nice stretch of beaches between Port Dickson & Melaka City. I probably cannot find this place again even if I were to drive pass the same route.

    Check out the Fort
Do make the walk up to the Fort and go all the way!

The view fom the top is not only rewarding but it's also possibly the breeziest spot in malacca.

    Tanjung Bidara Beach
Quiet beach in the afternoon - Negeri Melaka
    Quiet beach in the afternoon

I stayed at Tajung Bidara for one night. It didn't seem to be a popular destination. The beach was kind of quiet. The sand is soft and golden. Tanjung Bidara is a nice place to relaxed. But the downside is there is nothing around the beach. There is no town nearby (or perhaps I didn't know it).

Directions: Tanjung Bidara is about 30km north of Melaka town. Drive on the old road (not the Highway) towards Port Dickson and turn left when you see the sign.
