We had our dinner on the second day at Umbai. We got to know about this place through a Malacca brochure and we asked our hotel staff how to get there. This place is actually out of the Melaka town already and it is at the district of Jasin. There are many stalls here and we chose the one that was facing the sea and also the most crowded. Over here, you can pick your own seafood and they will give you a few choices on how they will be cooking each dish eg. black pepper/ sweet and sour/ fried etc. Service was quite fast here despite that the place was so crowded. Price is definitely very reasonable. We ordered black pepper flower crab, mussels cooked in sweet and sour sauce, fried sotong and grilled prawns. All this total up to only RM 60 for 2 person.

Umbai Baru Floating Grilled Fish Village is more comfortable than Pernu Grilled Fish. It's very nice place and located at the Umbai seaside. Many seafood restaurants under one roof. For me, I always go to restaurant no. 6, 7, 8 & 9. The seafood is fresh, the 'nasi lemak' is so delicious. So, if you cannot find any empty table, just go to another restaurant as I told you earlier. Price is very reasonable. 5-8 persons will cost only RM 100-130 (depending on seafood market price). This price including nasi lemak, kailan ikan masin, fruit juice & other dishes. The fish can be grilled, steamed or fried.
Favorite Dish: Grilled fish with nasi lemak..... Very delicious.

The stall located about 1 km from main road. It's actually located in a small village called Kampung Berangan Enam, Umbai. It can be described as a kopitiam. This 'kopitiam' actually don't sell coffee. The owner has his own reason why he did not sell coffee. The main dishes are based on noodle such as curry noodle, rojak noodle, plain rojak & fried noodle.
Favorite Dish: Curry noodle.... very difficult to describe. Must taste it yourself.

It's very easy to get to Umbai. From Melaka Sentral you can take either Malacca Omnibus Service (MOS) & S.K.A bus service to Muar or Merlimau (both company seldom put a specific number on their bus; so, just read at the bus route signboard). The bus frequency is every 15-20 minutes for both company. Or, you can take Town Bus Service no 23, if I'm not mistaken (just read at the bus route signboard). The last destination for the Town Bus Service is Anjung Batu Jetty, Umbai, and the bus frequency is every 30-45 minutes. Just ask the bus driver or bus conductor to stop you at Umbai Small Town (from here you can walk to Umbai Baru Floating Grilled Fish Village) or stop at Anjung Batu Jetty ( to Besar island and also to Anjung Batu Grilled Fish stalls). The bus fare, non air-conditioned bus : RM 1.50 and air-conditioned bus : RM 1.60-RM 1.70.
