SQM is a tidbit and is made from flour, egg, magarine, salt and sugar as ingredients... it is popular as a dessert at the end of a meal or just as a tidbit with coffee or tea... SQM is very popular in Ipoh, Kampar and Bidor (all towns in the state of Perak)... But the best so far that I have tasted is sold at this stall in Bentong...

This confectionery factory is set in a village house in Kg Kemansur... It is home-made by hand and is noted throughout Bentong... The pasties are sold directly by the bakery thru Mrs Mok, a middle aged woman, at the back entrance of the Bentong market, along Jalan Chui Yin... She will usually be stationed there after 8.00am in the morning until sold out... Besides the puffs, the woman also sell packaged groundnuts and a snack called "sek ki mah" aka "sha qi ma" which is also famous in Bentong... The "sek ki mah" or "sha qi ma" is made in Bentong itself...
What to buy: The speciality is kaya puff and pineapple puff... The pastry is just right and the puffs are good to every bite... As no perservatives are used in making the pastry, its expiry date is within 2 weeks...
What to pay: The cost of the puff is currently 70 sen each as in December 2008...

The wet market is the place to meet local people and buy local products besides the normal vegetable, fruits, meat and other daily neccesities... The market stalls spilled out onto the main and side roads around the market... It is buisest in the morning from 5.00am...
What to buy: The wet market sells the everyday needs of the populance... There are vegetables, fruits, fish, meat and others... Bentong is noted for its ginger.. and tofu pok... Its suace under the "Hand" brand is also well sought after... And I was also introduced to the pineapple puff by my Bentong friend, who swears that you cannot get it anywhere but in Bentong... The puff was indeed very good...
What to pay: Prices are generally reasonable if not cheap... t is really cheap if compared to that in nearby Bukit Tinggi village or Kuala Lumpur..
