Another thing one absolutely should do in Cherating is to take a boat trip on the Cherating river. The day tour takes 1,5 hrs and I saw lots of wildlife: monkeys, snakes, lizards, kingfisher and other birds. Usually there is a departure at 9am and at 4pm and a ticket is 25RM.There is also firefly watching trip each night 8pm. Really amazing! This...more
Of course the main reason to come Cherating is the beach. It's long and wide, but unfortunately the water is a bit too shallow for swimming. The western end of the beach was very popular with surfers, especially with beginners.During my stay Cherating was very quiet, but I guess this changes during holiday season.more
I risk too much repeating of a tip that might have been given by hundreds of other visitors to cherating but i love sipping black kampung coffee by the roadside cafe Hai Peng, under branches of shadowy raintree.. while chickens run around my feet.. chukai fast becoming busy township.. more cars and new road system and parking system, and fast...more
The turtle sanctuary is a stone's throw away (literally) from the entrance to the club. Every year between June to September, the sanctuary releases baby turtles into the sea at night. Otherwise, it's a small place explaining the breeding habits and environment of the sea turtles.more
Well there is nothing much you can do in cherating, the beach is not that so clean or what, besides eating seafood you can go and look for turtle laying eggs, you will be lucky if there is any turtle at the first place, if you have a car travel on your own, but if yo are lazy to go around inform your hotel they will arrange for you if there is any...more
After checking out many reviews and raves about this so called restaurant, my family delegation of 7 adults and 5 kids decided to try it out.. Firstly driving into the car park, we thought we were driving into a sleazy red light area, then we found our table and ordered our food...to our surprise the crabs were crazy expensive at RM50/kg...so we...more
It's a very plain looking restaurant...so don't expect any fancy interior...but that's what they say "never judge a book by its cover".I had really nice ikan bakar n other seafood here. You can get get fresh fishes, crabs, squids, prawns n other seafood with very reasonable price. The thing is you have to be quick. The place is a big hit at...more
This restaurant is situated outside of the Cherating area. However, a quick drive will lead you into Terengganu and into the Kemaman area. Should you be on the look out for Chinese food, this is an option. Drive time is approximately 20 or 30 mins from memory. Please check with the locals as I forget. In Chukai, drive around and look for this...more

Cherating at night is not like what you might think. Among all the chalets and hotels here, the one that provide most happening entertainment is Duyong. Exactly at 12 midnight, there will be a live music. The type of music being performed here is Latin (like Santana), oldies and some Malay songs. Around 1.00 am, the Dee Jay will play remixed R & B...more
If you got your own transportation, it is one of the best ways to explore Malaysia. Going to Cherating from the south (Singapore) can be long. From JB, you need to get to Kota Tinggi first before hitting Trunk Road 3 up north past Mersing, Kuala Rompin, Pekan and Kuantan.A faster way to Kuantan and Cherating from Singapore. A tip from fellow...more

This is a very plain looking stall by the road. Infact there're many other stalls selling almost the same thing as this one but it has all that 3 must eat food when you're in the east-coast: keropok lekor, satar n otak-otak. All made from fish, cook n taste differently. Most of the stuff is sold at RM1.00 for 4 pieces.more

The prices vary from sizes, the smaller you are...the cheaper it'll be n the other...more
When going to Cherating, please keep in mind that there aren't any banks or any ATMs there. Of course you always can take the bus to the nearest town (which isn't too far away).According to the LP you also can exchange traveller's cheques and cash at the Travelpost to some unfavourable rates.more
Luggage and bags:
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Flip flops and basics. If you can bring some pario or sarung, that would be cooler! Be a hot babe at the beach.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: If you can't live without make-up, try to get some light make-up sets. Lotions are v. important, and not forgetting sun-block.
Photo Equipment: A digital cam will do.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Bikini!
