by SLLiew The Malayan Tapir is an ancient animal, much unchanged since the evolution of mammals. It is black and white. Saw it in the wild for the first time in Taman Negara at 3am in the morning from a viewing hide over a salt lick. At first, we just saw the red eyes and thought it was a panther. Then the entire white body outline revealling that it was a tapir, a gentle herbivore. What is significant is the tapir is found only in another place - in the jungles of South America. It is a living proof that South America and Asia were once joined as a continent before the great geological continental drift begins. The Malayan Tapir is chosen as a the logo of the Malaysian Nature Society.

by SLLiew When approaching Kuantan town, the first famous landmark seen is Darulmakmur Stadium. This is the venue where many important football games and finals are played out by the Pahang State football team with other rival states. Football has been an important sport in Pahang because for many years the FAM (Football Association Malaysia) President is held by his Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. So if you are in town and there is a football game going on, join the locals for a noisy game.

One of the things you will have to have when you are in Pahang is to enjoy a coconut from its beginning to its end. After you grab a coconut from one of the local monkey pickers, take it over to a stick and remove its outside shell. From that point, take a machete, cut the coconut open so that you can stick a straw in the middle to drink the "milk". After you are finished with the coconut smoothie, then crack it open all the way and eat the white inner side. Enjoy this treat when you are out and about visiting the small villages in Pahang!
