My favorite thing about this stop was actually the toilet! :D It had a traditional western toilet AND toilet paper and it was very nice and clean. This was fabulous, as we had stopped earlier at the public toilets, which were all those low in-ground ones and of course no toilet paper, so it is always a good idea to take a bit with you! But seriously, the shop was a nice little stop. In the back, you can watch the people hand-painting the batik fabric. It is very lovely... and the shop is very large and a good place to pick up a few souvenirs.
Their specialty is batik fabric, which you can buy just as fabric or in a few items of clothing. They also have a wide variety of other clothing (I got a cute skirt) and the front of the shop is full of other random souvenirs. There are also two other shops right in the same complex with lots of carved wooden souvenirs and things. We did think that many of the souvenirs were the same as ones we saw in Bangkok, so look for something unique.
I paid AU$17 (US$12) for my cute skirt. There was a wide variety of items with a wide range of prices, but the souvenirs were similarly priced to other places we had seen. Preserved Seafood is A "Must" in Kuantan! by sailor_p Situated along the coast, one of the best thing about Kuantan is the availability of seafood. Hence, you will find that seafood items are the "hottest" buys in town! When visiting Kuantan, do not forget to drop in one of the street stalls to get your purchases. Some recommendations for preserved seafood items are "Keropok" or fried crackers. You can get different flavours such as fish crackers, prawn crackers and even squid crackers! Other than getting the crackers, do remember to take home a salted fish! At USD5, you can take home a salted fish of half a metre! That's what one of my counterparts from Thailand did. According to her, the salted fish is much cheaper than what she got in Bangkok! But remember, do ask for extra layers of wrapping if you don't want your clothes in your luggage to smile like a salted fish! Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkDirections: You can see a number of such stalls along the highway.

However, it's certainly a convenient place for tourist to buy some necessities. Famous shops like KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut & Guardian are all located here. Sin Kee Hung Sdn Bhd by yipsufen This is a must visit shop when you visit Kuantan since the town is reputable for its fresh seafood, dried seafood and salted fish. Most tourists will drop by this shop to purchase some local produce as gift for friends & relatives. In addition, you can browse through some local produce from other states of Malaysia like Penang, Ipoh & Melaka.
Some recommended buys are salted fish, dried / roasted cuttlefish, satay fish, anchovies, dried shrimps, dried mussels, scallops, prawn crackers etc. Salted fish is great for porridge & anchovies are great for soup.
You might get a cheaper price if you buy in bulk or in large combined quantity. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: 1007, Batu 3 1/2, Jalan Gambang, 25150 KuantanPhone: 609-5362288Other Contact: Fax: 609-5366688
