Kuantan Rugby Tournament
One of the things that interested me during our trip to Kuantan was that they had a dedicated rugby pitch in the middle of downtown. Upon further research, it appears that there is an annual 7-a-side rugby tournament that is played here in Pahang province every year.
Although I could not find too much more information about this tournament on the internet, it appears to be on the first weekend of December every year, so if you are going to be in Kuantan around that time, please stop in!
Kelab Golf DiRaja Pahang
The club is also known by its English name Royal Pahang Golf Club... The 18-holes par-72 course is flat, being beside the sea at Teluk Chempedak... The course plays to 6,898 yds with both the First and Second Nine at 3,498yds from the blue tees... It is one of the few courses with measurement in yards... The First Nine has some difficult holes for high handicappers especially with long carry over water hazards... The tighter Second Nine plays along the beach for the first 4 holes... The fairway is of cow grass with matured trees along the buggy track and tee-box areas... It is cool when there is fresh breeze coming from the sea... Buddy is on track...
Equipment: The clubhouse comprises the golfer's terrace, karaoke room and bar... There is driving range as well as a well stocked pro-shop... The men and ladies changing room are a bit tired but functional...
Pantai Lagenda Golf & Country Club
The 18-holes par-72 course plays to 6,090m from the blue tees... The course is set in its natural surroundings for which the club terms the Natural Habitat areas... This is where there are birds and other small animals making it their home...
The Links (1st) Nine plays to 3,051m while the Forest (2nd) Nine is a tard shorter 3,039m... The course is rather flat with grassland vegetation and short shrubs... There will be problems finding wayward balls in these areas... The course has it fair share of water hazards... With its proximity to the beach, there is the occasional fresh breeze but generally the course is rather hot with and absence of tall trees... Buggy is on fairway as there are no buggy tracks...
Equipment: The clubhouse has a golfer's terrace with limited food and beverage selections as the course is usually under-utilised... The men and ladies changing rooms are of acceptable standard...
Astana Golf & Country Club
The 18-holes par-72 course plays to a short 5,914m from the blue tees... with the Floral (1st) Nine playing to 2,883m and the Palm (2nd) Nine to a longer 3,031m... The course is undulating with water coming into play (either hazard or lateral) in all the holes... The course is rather hot due to the non-maturing trees...
Equipment: The club has a big clubhouse with the registration counter by the side of the pro-shop... There are conference room facilities and function halls for wedding and seminars... Besides the man and lady changing rooms, there is also a golfer's terrace... The course maintenance is found to be wanting...
The Astana Golf & Country Club has been closed indefinitely since beginning of 2009 due (mainly) to mis-management as well as poor patronage...
