Creating Batik
Batik is a wax patterned cloth that is created primarilly in Indonesian textile mills. It is mostly done in patterns including scenes from the ocean, or with birds, flowers, butterflies, or some other plant or animal pattern. The process includes wax being put down on a piece of fabric or paper, then applying dye to the pattern. Since the wax will not allow the fabric below to absorb the dye, the batikers can add the dye all the way throughout the fabric, and then steam off the wax leaving some intriquite patterns.A rule of thumb while looking for batik patterns would be to look at how many colors and how unique the pattern is... the more colors, the more expensive it is to produce, so it should be more expensive!
