Diving and Snorkeling, Pulau Tioman
This is among main reason why many tourists visit here. Get ready to check with your hotel on the best place to go for the best underwater experience. Make sure you not seasick from the boat ride. Enjoy!
Well what can I say?!! My first dive was fantastic!! Our instructor Adrian was very attentative.
We chose the Sealantis Dive Centre along the pathway just before you enter the Paya Beach Resort. They also do the full Padi Dive Courses. There were quite a few that were doing an advanced dive on our trip.
Scuba Diving on Tioman is very cheap. Also Pulau Tioman is a world renowned diving hotspot.
Full first dive story in the travelogue below.
The snorkling is awesome! Most accommodation to Pulau Tioman is sold as a package deal including meals and a snorkling trip. This trip is well worth it!!
I totally recommend it!!
I love snorkelling and went every place/time I got the chance in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Tioman was definitely without a doubt the best snorkelling experience I had. The visibility is amazing and there is so much to see. I went from Monkey beach and swam all the way out to the small island from there. I didn't mean to go that far but it was so beautiful and there was so much to see. I saw two big turtles on the way. It was magic. If you leave towels on the beach though the monkeys steal them :-)
Oh one thing to be careful about though. If you spend too long out there and the tide goes out, it is really hard to get back to the beach because of all the coral, be careful you don't let this happen!
One need not rent a boat to be able to snorkel. The island's marine sanctuary is located just off the shore.
For colorful corals, one can rent a boat and go farther to a nearby small island near Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort.
Things to do:
1. Lazing on the beach
2. Snorkeling at Renggis or Marine Park
5. Diving, There are different diving courses as well starting from the beginners
6. Jungle Trekking
7. Bath in the Water Falls
8. Timout at the Pub on the Beach
10. Swimming in the Cyrstal Clear Beach
Almost all challet here or hotel do have Kayak. You don't need a license to use kayak here. Try for round island. It will be very interesting.
Like i said before snookeling is a must! You can rent it for only MYR 4-5 per hour or two. The cheapest is in Mokhtar place next to nazri place.
Diving, I haven't try that in Tioman. You need to attend the course.
If you want to enjoy more in Tioman Island, you can discover the aquatic life with snorkelling or scuba diving. Marine Park is a good location for diving. Feeding the fish underwater is amazing. You can rent scuba equipment from many shops available all around the island.
Before leaving for the island, there has been some thought of giving snorkling a try and happy to say that the opportunity was taken, eventhough, ' chicken out ' when putting on the mask n actually putting your head into the water but then again, one gets to see the fishes and coral but just not so clear...
Most of tourist or travel came around here to experience snorkel or even go for scuba diving beside just to relax on the white sand beach.
My self, I took the opportunity to experience snorkel and get to know the friendly underwater creatures. I am amazed since this was my first timer do snorkel and I really found it intriguingly that would make me wanted to see more.
In Tioman, snorkelling is a must. You don't really have to travel with boat out for fantastic snorkelling. Just infront of Salang Sayang, you can view many kinds of colorful fish. Snorkelling equipment for rental is easily available from all resorts and small shops along the walkway. Rental of fin is at Rm7 per day. Similarly for life jacket. I don't know the exact rental cost for mask and snorkel as I bring my own set. But I remember vaguely is about RM15 for full set.
You'll get to see turtles, stingrays, cuttlefish, jellyfish, eels, giant clams, starfish, batfish, pufferfish, angelfish, clownfish (Nemos), sea stars, sea cucumbers, sea fans, barracudas, boxfish, parrotfish, sergeantfish, rabbitfish, sea urchins, groupers, sweetlips, cardinalfish, lizardfish, dameselfish, wrasses, filefish, squirrelfish, lionfish, porcupinefish & etc...
Tioman is known for its beautiful corals n other underwater creatures so...you have to try out snorkeling here.
Most of the places offer 4 spots snorkeling trip, daily at 10.30 a.m till about 1.30 p.m. Some even have afternoon trips. The price is about RM50 per person including equipment.
If you're lucky enough you might come across baby sharks, turtles and barracuda n other interesting stuff. If not, there're plenty of colourful fishes, sea urchins, corals, sea cucumbers n others waiting to be seen.
You might want to bring some bread for the fishes n some for yourself.
Oh my God, snorkeling was so awesome. (Not that I had much to compare it with, it was my first experience!) But anyways, the water was crystal clear (I know all this sounds cliche but it's the truth!) and you could see the fishies from your boat. I'm not much of a strong swimmer (what a bummer) so I spent a lot of time worrying about water entering my mask. I am currently taking swimming classes and plan to experience surfing in Hawaii next year. Wish me luck! I went to Tioman with my family. My mom planned the trip under one of Berjaya Hotel's packages. We pretty much stayed within the resort area since there wasn't much to be explored in the village- familywise. I've been told that there's a liqour shop in the village where liqour's superbly cheap. I've forgotten the name of the shop but be sure to look out for a small shop with a loud Chinese man inside ;) You can also go hiking if you wish, but again, since it was a family vacation, we didn't do much adventuristic exploration. Will be holidaying with friends again end of this year so look out for more on this page soon!
The main reason people come to Tioman for, a snorkelling trip or dive. Usually the snorkelling comes with the accomodation package. However you can charter boats to explore different areas of Tioman for nominal sums. (Maybe 20 ringgit)
