    Flora Watching in Taman Negara

by SLLiew Written Sep 29, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

While animals may hide like the mousedeer, the towering tall Tembeling trees, parasitic creepers, fruiting fig trees, bamboos, thorny rattans and palms, giant ferns, flowering orchids and mushrooms are what make the bulk of a rainforest.

Botanical identification with a guide book or better still with a guide to learn about the various timber and medicinal values of different trees and plants. There is a slide show in the evening and a small exhibition hall about the rainforest.

Bird and animal watching at Kuala Tahan HQ

by SLLiew Written Sep 29, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

You can just stay at Taman Negara Kuala Tahan HQ dormitory, chalets or lodge and enjoy bird watching along the short trails or along the rivers.

There are a few high hides where you can stay overnight overlooking the salt licks where in the wee hours say around 3 am, animals like deer and the endemic black and white Malayan Tapir comes for their mineral intake. It is totally dark and so you have to shine your powerful torchlight to see the animals. The animals will think that it is moon light. Of course, you have to keep quiet. Most of the night, you lie in your bunk beds with moquito netting until someone spot an animal.

So bring your binoculars, torch light and batteries.

    Colmar tropical ,Bukit tinggi

by kenari Updated Jul 16, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Colmar Tropicale, located in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, is a replica of a collection of buildings from a north-eastern village in France dating back to the 16th Century.you can enjoy the various entertainment at Colmar Tropicale. A clock tower at the entrance welcomes the visitors. You need to walk up (and down) curvy concrete staircases to view the entire development.
Live bands and snake performances entertain the visitors on a stage. A clown juggles balls and pins, rides on his cycle, hops around playing tricks and acting merry. Authentic French food is served from sidewalk cafes and restaurants

    Monkey around with Coconuts

by ATXtraveler Written Mar 10, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you are headed to Pahang, you will immediately notice on your arrival plenty of Palm trees, and their wonderful export, the coconut. Logistically, the coconut does not seem like it is a very economically "fruitful" business. The reason primarilly is the difficult nature of retrieving this coconut from the top of the tree.

Those in Southeast Asia figured this out very quickly.... train a monkey to do a man's job!

In one of the small villages just outside of Kuantan, we enjoyed a demonstration of how the monkeys climb to the top of the palm trees, carefully twist the ripe coconuts and then drop them into a awaiting net.
