To see animals, walk alone
The many times I saw wildlife in Taman Negara was when I was walking along in the trails either to fetch water or get away from the noisy crowds. When you are trekking with someone else, you tend to talk or make too much noise together.Have saw wildpigs, gibbons and pheasants scrambling across my path. The first time, I saw a mouse deer, the size of a small dog, I was really exhilarated. We read about Sang Kancil the mousedeer in folk tales who outwitted the crocodile and the tiger in various jungle exploits. So seeing not in a zoo or stuffed up in a museum but in the wild, eye to eye was an unforgettable encounter. Of course, I quickly snapped a picture. But the mousedeer was too fast for me. The picture does show the flash of a mousedeer to prove my point but not clear enough to post here :)
