On a Sunday, you could go to the big Chinese Methodist Church. On some festival days, you could watch those parades, esp Thaipusam, or some Chinese cultural demonstrations, which are few and far between.
The only grand occasion is the funeral procession which seem to be very frequent. The noisy procession of the Chinese usually parades the whole length of the town before it disperse to the burial grounds. Malays usually hold quiet funerals. If you're interested in wildlife conservation, you could take a tour to Bota Kanan, 17 km from Ayer Tawar.
Here is the Pusat Pembiakan Tuntung ( Riverine Turtle Hatchery ) where the tuntung ( turtle ) is studied, bred and displayed to the public for educational purposes.
Just paid a vist yesterday 13 July 2005, and saw many teenagers having happy hours there !
