    Malaysian Aborigines

by SLLiew Written Aug 20, 2007

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: When the East-West Highway first opened between Gerik in North Perak and Jeli in Kelantan, it passed through the jungles treks of hundreds years used by the Malaysian Aborigines (Orang Asli) and the wild Malayan Elephants.

There were encounters of elephants even attacking parked tractors along the highway. And signs of "Beware of Elephants" were placed along certain sections of the highway.

We also saw very often children of Orang Asli appearing from the jungles onto the road or even Orang Asli adults walking along the highway.

Today, there are no more elephant sightings nor the Orang Asli seen along the highway. Both have moved away.

    Lumut

    by imran8852 Updated Jan 28, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Situated approximately 84km south of Ipoh is a small town called Lumut. Other than the jumping off point to Pangkor and the nearby island, Lumut is also the home base for The Royal Malaysian Navy
( R.M.N ) Previously The Royal Malaysian Navy also has the base in Woodlands Singapore and was called K.D Malaya.
From Lumut you will reach Pangkor Island for less than an hour. Lumut has change just like Mersing!

Fondest memory: Beautiful view of the limestone hill, hot springs etc.
