Malaysian Aborigines
When the East-West Highway first opened between Gerik in North Perak and Jeli in Kelantan, it passed through the jungles treks of hundreds years used by the Malaysian Aborigines (Orang Asli) and the wild Malayan Elephants. There were encounters of elephants even attacking parked tractors along the highway. And signs of "Beware of Elephants" were placed along certain sections of the highway. We also saw very often children of Orang Asli appearing from the jungles onto the road or even Orang Asli adults walking along the highway. Today, there are no more elephant sightings nor the Orang Asli seen along the highway. Both have moved away.
