Banding Island Resort is a man made island as result of the creation of the Temenggor dam. It is located halfway between Gerik and Jeli at 1,200 feet above sea level and also the gateway to Lembah Belum (Belum Valley)

The Hornbill Restaurant is under the management of the Banding Island Resort. It is the only restaurant available in Banding Island. However, there are few other road side stalls around the vicinity of Banding Island Resort.

Should you be tracking into the Royal Belum Rainforest and you consider leeches to me an unpleasant experience, here are some tips.

Liquid Mosquito Repellent Spray - Spray them on your shoes ever so often. Remember to spray your shoes again if you track through water when you emerge

Insect Repellent - I used an Aerosol spray which did not seem to stick on my shoes. Perhaps try the water based or other liquid based ones.

Thick high socks - Tucking your pants into your socks do work. Gives you enough time to spot the leech that may crawl up your pants and have it removed.

Gerik Favorites

Favorite thing: Gerik is so remote yet so less visited by even local Malaysians. The location is far north under Hulu Perak district of Perak state just some 30kms away from the Thailand border. The surroundings were big natural forest but most already turned into plantation estate of oil palm to make money and the roads to Gerik are probably the least driven by cars until our car has to slow down to wait for cows to get off the road. If you want to visit the archeological site of Lawin, Lenggong or the famous Perak Man (proto Malay skeleton), you can try this location. For sightseeing, yes very beautiful and you can snap as many photos as you like.
