Ipoh white coffee: Ipoh white coffee

    by l_joo Updated Mar 31, 2005

Ipoh white coffee is available at most of the shops here. I was told the coffee was local made, I bought some the last few trips back home, but I did not try, because I seldom drink coffee, I prefer Chinese tea.

Sports Bistro: Good food, good price.

by IreneMcKay Updated Feb 15, 2014

We decided to eat in the Sports Bistro which faced onto the padang. It is near the Old Town White Coffee Cafe.

We first noticed this place because of its complicated drink pricing system. As with many places in Ipoh it all depends on the time of day you want to eat. There is no drinks menu inside so you have to work it all out from the pictures displayed outside the front door.

For the food on offer check out the backboard inside the restaurant. There are main meals and snack foods. I ordered a chicken dish; my husband had a pork burger - pork is available because the restaurant is Chinese. The pork burger was more of a boneless pork chop in a bun. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was very friendly and attentive.

We returned here for drinks and garlic bread when we were waiting to depart Ipoh by train. We noticed they did a great value 5 course lunch menu. Some other people ordered it and it looked really good, but we could not eat it having consumed a buffet breakfast at our hotel that morning. If you can eat in the heat of the day, this place is great value.

    The beer pricing system.

    Plan B: Posh Ipoh

by IreneMcKay Updated Feb 15, 2014

This restaurant looked pretty new. It was also quite nicely decorated. By Ipoh standards it seemed quite expensive and everything was plus 16%.

There are two sections: the outside one has ceiling fans but no air-cons, the inside one has ceiling fans and air-con and is unpleasantly cold.

The food was of a good quality and very tasty. I had chicken; my husband had burger.

    Weng Kee Seafood Restaurant: Seafood...

    by 4Czens Written Sep 11, 2002

It's air-conditioned, so you can eat comfortably. If you notice, there are a few recommendations here that are from Ipoh Garden. That's because I stay here when in Ipoh.

Favorite Dish: Lai Yau Fish (usually this style is used for prawns, but here they make the fish this way too).

Sorry the translation is not available 'cos I'm not good with food terms... Does "fried butter fish with curry leaves" help?

Foo San: Don't miss this restaurant of Dim Sum

    by l_joo Updated May 6, 2004

City centre looks like 70’s Kuala Lumpur. The main objective and mission to visit Ipoh for me is to stop over and eat the famous Taugeh Chicken Rice and if I arrive early in the morning, I will go to the Dim Sum restaurant, Foo San (photo).

Restoran Tasik Raban: Malay restaurant fantastic for lunch

by mdakhirs Updated Jan 28, 2008

fantastic selection of selera kampung dishes - ulam2, grilled fish -- typical and wide selection of malay food. Was informed that also got fresh water fish but when i went there the lunch hour was almost over so the grilled fish was almost finished but hey other dishes also got me fumbling for the nasi

looking at the name the restaurant may have some connection to the one sitting by the lake in Grik, but i dont know..

Anyway good place if you hunkering for unusual ulam and dishes cant be found in typical malay food joint. The price was also reasonable

    Favorite Dish: Ulam and sambal

One of my favourite coffee shops in Ipoh is Chang Jiang. It serves good white coffee. The aroma and fragrance is good. Most of the coffee shops in Ipoh also serve white coffee. RM1.2 a cup.
