There's one renowned coffeeshop in Ipoh Old Town which brews the best coffee in town, its name is Sun Yuen Loong. Apart from coffee, it also serves tea, toast, steamed bread in kaya and noodles.
Enjoy your cuppa !
What to buy: It's aptly called white coffee because of the differentiated process of roasting coffee. The coffee is smoother and more frothy in drinking and aromatic to the senses.
If you love the taste of Ipoh white coffee, you can bring home some 3-in-1 instant white coffee sachets for your friends and relatives. Among the best brands are Chek Hup Ipoh White Coffee King (as shown in the photo) and Ipoh Old Town White Coffee. Their packets are larger with high grade instant coffee powder, non-dairy creamer and low calorie sugar.
Read below for details on Chek Hup.
What to pay: RM10 to RM12 per packet of 15 large sachets.

Jusco at Ipoh is one of the earliest outlet in Northern Peninsular Malaysia.
It is still a popular shopping center, two levels and with the grocery section at a separate area on the lower level.
Great thing is that parking is now free and it is a quick 5 minutes from the exit of the North-South PLUS highway. You can do some quick shopping, stretch your legs and get a bite before heading back to Penang or Kuala Lumpur. You can see the high Jusco sign when you make the exit.
There is a Tesco just opposite too.

There are just a few places to shop in Ipoh like at Ipoh Parade, Kinta City (Jusco) , Tesco ,The Store, Giant etc. and these malls do not offer a lot of variety. You will find it hard to find branded stuff here but if you are desperate for some expensive coffee, you will find a new Starbucks at Ipoh Parade and Coffee Bean at Jusco.
But since you are in Ipoh, why not try the local "bak ka fei (white coffee)"?
What to buy: groceries are cheap especially at Tesco and Giant, Jusco slightly more expensive but it depends on the weekly promotions.
What to pay: Very little
