There has to be a reason for people to drive more than 40 km daily to walk up Kledang Hill at Menglembu, Ipoh. I think it is the air. Once you cross 1000 ft your tiredness surprisingly disappears. Must be the ions from the waterfall.
There are 6 routes up the hill with differing difficulty. The most boring and easiest route is to walk the metal road all the way up to the RTM station, about 8km. The second in difficulty is up the flight of steps and then to the RTM. The third to sixth are jungle paths well sign posted. Ask the people there and they will guide you. But, these routes can be tough. Don't let your judgment be fooled by the old ladies hiking there. They are veterans and are super fit.
A word of caution. If you are parking the car at the foothill, make sure it is in the morning of a weekend when there are many people around. Otherwise, parang weilding youths will break into it and steal. The police are useless there. Better to park at the coffee- shops and walk one km to the foothill.
To get there, simply go near Menglembu and ask. Koh Restaurant at Menglembu serves excellent vegetarian food.

The par-72 18-holes course plays to a long 6,376m from the blue tees... The First Nine is 3,172m with the Second Nine at 3,204m... The course is flat with cow grass fairway and is very well maintained... The course has been converted to a buggy course and caddies are also avialable... There is minimal water in play except for some drains that cut across the fairways... It is a comparatively long course with matured shady trees along the fairways... Most of the greens are elevated...
Equipment: The new clubhouse complex was ready for operation and opened officially in August 2009... The complex is impressive by any standard... Besides the up-class man and lady changing rooms, there is also the pro-shop... The golfer's terrace serves Chinese food and seafood... Beside it is the Japanese restaurant...
The club accepts walk-ins now with the green fees at RM180 (weekdays) and RM250 (weekends)... Member's guests pay RM120 (weekdays) and RM180 (weekends) and they must play with the member... This is a buggy course and only members may use the trolley...

The golf course is within the Bukit Kinding Resort, a family recreation resort still being developed... Besides the 9-holes golf course, there are also chalets, boat area, a gym, a recreation swimming pool as well as a spa...
The 9-holes golf course is designed by former Malaysia golf pro M Ramayah... The course is very undulated and hilly and is a tough course for beginners... It is rather short and narrow playing to 2,865yds from the blue tees and favours straight hitters... Anything less than that would result in lost balls in the ravines along the fairways... The two par 3s (particularly hole #6) are most challenging... On the whole, the course is somewhat scenic but has not matured yet with no tree shadings within the tee-box area and fairway...
Equipment: There are no changing rooms as such and golfers will have to use the changing rooms either at the swimming pool or the gym... There is a golfers terrace for some light meal and drinks...
The green fees is rather steep for a 9-holes course at RM35 (weekdays) and RM45 (weekends) for 9 holes play... The buggy is RM25 each... Resorts members will have to pay RM360 as Annula Golf Subscription Fee to play golf or else will have to pay green fees of RM30 (weekdays) and RM40 (weekends) with buggy at RM20...

Situated in the midst of the Kledang-Siong Forest Reserve, the Meru Valley course comprises of 3 nines viz the Valley Nine, Waterfall Nine and the River Nine...
The Valley Nine plays to 3,013m from the blue tees... This Nine plays down into the valley and it is rather stuffy if the wind is not blowing... A single stream cuts acroos the fairway with a small lake between the 1st and 8th hole...
The Waterfall Nine plays to 3,074m from the blue tees... The is a rather scenic Nine with clear rushing streams along the fairways...
The shorter River Nine plays to 2,920m from the blue tees... The name is a misnomer as there is only a small stream running thru the course...
The fairways are well maintained but a bit soggy due to rain... As a result, buggy is only allowed on track...
Equipment: The club has the usual man and lady chaning rooms which are quite big... There is the pro-shop managed by Pan West... The driving range is just next to the clubhouse... For f&B, there is the Golfer's Terrace and the Dome Restaurant... There is also a swimming pool within the clubhouse building...

The comparatively short par-70 course plays to 5,590m from the blue tees... The par-34 First Nine plays to2,616m while the par-36 Second Nine to 2,974m... The fairway is of cow grass but is well maintained... There is the occasional small water hazard and golfers also have to play over a large drain that cut across the fairway... The fairways are tight and narrow and there are many criss-crossig at a number of holes... The course is somewhat undulating at some parts but is generally flat...
Equipment: The club house is a simple single-storey building with a golfer's terrace, pro-shop and the normal male and female changing rooms...

Gua Tempurung which is about an hour's drive from Ipoh is a great place to visit.
There are a number of options: a 45 minute self-guided tour of the cave, a 2 hour guided tour or a 4 hour guided tour. You need to buy a ticket at the park entrance.
I took my daughter and her cousin for the simple self-guided tour, as we had limited time and practically no equipment ...except our own two feet. Apart from the physical activity, the girls also enjoyed it as an educational experience.
Equipment: Those who want to go for the full 4 hour tour shall have to bring a torch-light, good pair of non-slip sports shoes and a bottle of water.
Also, do arrive earlier if you want to spend a longer time here because the tours take off at specific times, eg. 9 am and 2pm-although I am not sure if the times have changed.
I found that some parts of the cave were very dark and not well lit. A moderate level of fitness is required as there are steps going up and down throughout the cave.

City dwellers longing for a quick getaway of adrenalin rush? Fret not..Head down to Ipoh, Perak (a state in Malaysia which is about 2 hours' drive away from the capital Kuala Lumpur). Here, you can have some adrenalin pumping fun rafting the whitewater rapids (Grade 3 and Grade 5 in May-June)
The adventure starts from Sungai Itik, where rapids called Double Decker and also Singapore junction awaits. Exhilarating indeed! Raft through the river to sungai Jahang where if water conditions are good, proceed and end at sungai kampar (total 10km). If water conditions are not good, i.e. to shallow, then won't proceed to sungai kampar and the journey will be 8km in total.
By the way, for non speakers of the Malay language, sungai means RIVER.
Equipment: River booties are recommended. If not covered shoes with non-slip soles works too. The life jacket, paddles and helmets will be provided by the adventure service provider you engage. There are 3 :- Uhuru, Riverbug and aww... I forgot the other one. Do a search in google, "Whitewater rafting in Ipoh" to find out contact details of some of the adventure cos.

ipoh is a town with many limestone caves.. explored and unexplored.. so, depending on your capabilities, there's something for everyone.. the limestone formation inside these caves are magnificent.. most of which took thousands of years to form..
Equipment: equipments required is very dependent on the cave.. but a pair of good rubber shoes is a must.. or you'll be tumbling down everywhere!
