At the northernmost point of Pangkor is a forest reserve where you can sweat your way to the top of Bukit Pangkor Utara.

The walk takes you through lush tropical jungle to 178m up from the beach way down below.

Visitors to Pulau Pangkor often skip the town and head straight for the beaches but I think one of the underrated gems here is Pangkor Town itself. You can still find cafes and shops operating here for decades and in their traditional way

Take some time to walk through the small town and you can imagine how life was like 20-30 years ago in other parts of Malaysia. You can find small industries dealing with sea products and little chinese coffee shops serving in old style cutlery. You can also find the cheapest things to eat here too so that is a bonus

It is quite difficult to visit the renowned Pangkor Laut Island unless you are staying at its resort. One way to reach there is to canoe over from Pasir Bogak beach. We landed on a secluded stretch of beach just over Pasir Bogak. The water was much clearer there, the sand was soft and very fine... and mosquitoes welcomed your visit. So carry some repellent with you. ;)

Between the 2 islands, it can be a bit strenuous to maneuver the canoe due to the current. But the reward was the beach.

This small kampung is off the main road opposite a cemetery, slightly north of Sungai Pinang Kecil. The families there are friendly and allowed us to explore the area. Catch a glimpse of the kampung life there.

I was lucky. I went around the island on a motorcycle at 3am. Some roads are not really well-lit. Make sure your motorbike has enough petrol. Just cruise along the roads next to the beach and breathe in the fresh air !

Fishing still plays a large part in the lives of the people of Pulau Pangkor and you will see many boats with the catch of the day.

Pinang Kecil is a small fishing kampung about 3km's north of Pangkor Town.

Here you can observe locals busy with their daily activities. Fishing is still the main industry here.

Teluk Dalam is a small fishing kampung only a few hundred metres walk from the Pan Pacific Resort along a village path.

This is a structure located on the left of the main jettry at Pangkor as you disembark from the ferry.
It is actually a building that houses a few businesses.

There is a boat building industry near the village of Sungai Pinang Kecil. Each fishing boat costs RM300,000 without furnishings. You can hang around and watch the experts at work without cost.
