Uncle Lim's: The place for Chinese food

by lovebeach Updated Mar 30, 2007

I was there on New Year's eve. There was a NYE celebration at the main restaurant. We didn't want to celebrate it with strangers and as such we headed for Uncle Lim's hoping that it will not be crowded. Apparently, there were quite a number of people whom I believe felt the same way too. So Uncle Lim's was crowded.

This is the restaurant bar by Emerald Bay, the lovely Pangkor Laut beach. It has several tables outside and serves light lunches. You can have satays, calamari, sandwiches and salads. The food is really good and the service excellent.

    Uncle Lim's: Fresh chinese food

    by tere1 Written Jul 23, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant serves chinese food and it's named after its chef, Uncle Lim. There is no menu, when you are at the table the waiters tell you what dishes they have for the day, according to the fresh fish or seafood they have. The restaurant is decorated with chinese motivs. I had an incredile tasteful meal one of the days and an excellent service but the next day it was the complete opposite. Bad food and bad service, so i was a bit disappointed the second time. You have to book a table well in advance, specially if the resort is full.

    The Samudra: Malay food

    by tere1 Written Jul 23, 2006

The Samudra is the restaurant where they serve Malay food. It's built on stilts over the sea and has a nice ambiance, particularly at dinner time. I found the food average here. The service was very good though.

    Malay Food Stall, Teluk Nipah

These stalls are found all over Malaysia, especially in the kampungs ( villages ).

Very cheap food, but under dusty and sometimes hot conditions.

But here under the tree, with the breeze from the sea, it's wonderful !

Favorite Dish: Try the famous roti canai, and of course, Nasi Lemak.

    Laksa stall at Pangkor

Heard that this laksa has been in Pangkor for many years. The foodstall is situated in the Fishermen's Village inside a large shelter where vehicles can drive in.

Favorite Dish: The laksa uses thick noodles, without meat and has a spicy taste, different from others that I tried before.

Fishermans Cove: A seafood lovers dream

by grets Written Aug 15, 2004

Restaurant hiding behind the trees on the right

Said to be the best restaurant in the resort, although very good, we didn't think it was patch on Dinner on the Rocks.

There is a choice of fish and seafood - all freshly caught that day - and cooking methods.

For starter we have prawn and mago in filo pastry with a chilli dip and lobster bisque.

Neither of us being real fish lovers, we both choose stir fried beef with black pepper sauce.

Dessert: Mango and pineapple strudel and apple tart.

Being my birthday, David has ordered a cake for me, but it never arrives. The table next to ours do get one, and we share theirs. I'm glad mine didn't arrive, as I didn't like it very much (that may not be the fault of the cake - I'm not very fond of cakes)

Favorite Dish: Stir fried beef with black pepper sauce - very tender and absolutely delicious.

Royal Bay Beach Club, Pangkor Laut: Casual elegance

    The pool

The bar/cafe by the pool serves lunches only and has a shortish snack menu. It's the first time I've seen a pool bar with starched linen tablecloths and napkins. Excellent service. The second day the waiter knows my name and greets me with the comment: "A Tiger Beer I think Mrs Howard?" Have I got a reputation as a drinker already?

Limited menu with things like crab with chilli dip, pizza, fish & chips, burgers and bruchettas.

Some evenings they have live musicians there, they are very good and the music is not so loud as to be a nuisance if you want an early night.

Favorite Dish: The steak sandwich is the best I've ever had!

The steak is 1.5cm thick and I am asked how I want it cooked! It is served with potato wedges.

Also the pineapple relish served with the burgers

Dinner at the Rocks: A great experience

by grets Written Aug 15, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Sorbet in ice goblet

Normally held on a wooden terrace set amongst the rocks over the sea - hence the name - but tonight there is the danger of rain, so the tables are laid up under the roof of the beach club instead.

The evening is more akin to a dinner party - everybody eats the same food at the same time. Transport is laid on from the main hotel in a Land Cruiser, not the normal mini bus.

The scene is very romantic and very unusual. There is only seven guests here tonight, on three tables. Little fairy ights are strung out between the trees on the beach, and the palm trees are lit up from below giving a very eerie look. Sounds of the waves and the geckoes add to the atmosphere.

A quiet three pice band playing in the background accepts requests from all the tables.

First Course: Stuffed rice wrapped in banana leaf with crab and beansprout salad. Delicious

Second Course: Chicken and vegetable consomme. Very tasty

Third Course: Lime sorbet served in goblets made from ice with flowers and leaves fron into them. Very impressive and refreshing

Fourth Course: White snapper in cream sauce with bok choy, split peas and sliced potatoes with cheese.

Fifth Course: Heartshaped cheesecake with a chocolate edge, chocolate straws and coulis of strawberry and passion fruit. Served with fresh strawberries and lychees.

Favorite Dish: I have never before come across White Snapper, and I will say it is the best fish I have ever had. Slightly crisp coating (not batter), beautifully moist and soft flesh. Very, very, very good

Chicken Satay, Fish in Coconut sauce, Beef Rendang, Green beans in sauce and steamed rice, followed by Green Tea Creme Brulee.

Emerald Bay Beach Cafe: Very small portions

Wooden seats a little up from the beach, some on a covered terrace, some on the sand.

They serve drinks and snack, and we are talking SNACKS now, not lunch!

We order peppered beef, spring rolls and samosas, thinking we have a fairly subsatncial lunch. Wrong! They are very tasty, but more like a coctail snack than a proper "dish". We go back to the main pool area for a "proper" lunch after!
