by SLLiew Once the old bus station, this ground floor below Fajar Hypermarket Kamunting has numerous hawker food stalls with a separate halal food (for Muslim) section. What you should do is take a big walk around and look at all the stalls. Be careful, some times the floor can be wet and slippery. If you are ensure, look at what most locals are eating and you know what is popular and decently great. I have taken the chicken rice and curry mee there - not bad. You will be spoiled for choice. This popular restaurant (coffee shop) is famous for steamed chicken rice and soya bean. There is also a famous prawn noodles (Hokkien mee) similar to Penang variety. Other stalls include "Char Koay Teow" (fried noodles) and "Popiah" (spring rolls). There are ample public parking using coin hourly meters. by SLLiew An impressive colonial prewar town building which serves as a coffee shop with stalls selling local Taiping food on the ground floor as well as providing accommodating on upper floor. Used to be one of my favorite eating places. Location is next to Taiping major shopping supermarket "The Store" and so after a quick snack under the ceiling fans of the coffee shop, can cool down further in the full air con "The Store". The food court is the result of moving most of the street hawkers off the streets and centralise them... A section of the food court is segregated for muslim food... There are many stalls thats sells all kinds of Chinese hawker food... ranging from seafood to noodles soups...
The most famous chee cheong fun is located at stall C-37... It is the best in the town... its yam cake is also mouth watering and delicious... the place to eat popiah in taiping by eelaine this is an old shop smack right in the middle of town.. the name means peace coffee shop and guest house.. the shop was built during the colonial times and have refurbished.. there's a guest house upstairs.. anyway, everything here is still from the olden days, giving it some added charm..
we dropped by during tea time and most of the stalls were closed.. but we got to try the popiah.. it's like a wet spring roll.. there's an old lady mending the stall.. costs rm1.20 per piece.. really yummy.. i'll definitely have it again the next time i go back there.. according to my sis, this place is famous.. well, we were lucky to stumble upon it! :) Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: along the same road as the store supermarket..

Mention Taiping and Kuay Teow (Hor Fun) soup springs to mind. Taiping's Kuay Teow soup is also synonymous with Ka Ka Restaurant, located on the busy Kota Road. Because Taiping's water is hard like that in Ipoh - due to being surrounded by karst/limestone hills, it has produced some of the best soup based food, beancurd and not to forget beansprouts. Do note that you have to be there the latest is before 12noon, because they sell out VERY quickly.
Kuay Teow soup (Kuay Teow) and Tau Foo Fa (Bean curd dessert). The white coffee is also very good and better than the "franchised" stuff found everywhere nowadays. Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Kota Road towards the old Town Hall

This stall sells yam cake, chee cheong fun, barley water, etc. It is not ambience of the stall that is important but the affordable yet tasty food items it provides. What makes this place special? My cousins, from Singapore who used lived in Taiping when they were much younger, would never Taiping without first eating at this stall.
My favourite dish as well that of my cousins is chee cheong fun which is soft and smooth. Normally it would come with chili sauce and brown sweet sauce. The taste would be further enhanced if it goes with prickled green chilli. Theme: Street VendorAddress: It is bet. Jln Tupai and Jln Sultan Abdullah

noted for it popiah... by chiabh This is just a noirmal coffee shop with 4 or 5 food stalls selling hawker food such as noodle soup, fried kway teow, popiah and chicken rice...
The noted Taiping popiah is sold here... As Taiping is also famous for its popiah, beside chee cheong fun, we were unfortunate not to try this stall, which is deeded to be the best in the town... as we were so full after tasting some of the local stalls... The Restaurant by aberacadabra If you like those fresh short, stubby and succulent type of bean sprout (Ngar Choi), Central and Northern Perak is the place to be. This restaurant serves Ipoh style Ngar Choi Gai (Bean sprout and chicken) with rice noodle in soup or dry style. Their white coffee is also excellent. If you're into chicken feet, their braised checken feet is great too. Theme: LocalComparison: least expensiveAddress: Cross St No. 3Directions: It's located on Cross St No. 3 (Jln. Manicksha) near the corner to Kota Road.
