Lake Garden, Taiping
Taiping Lake Garden is a old tin mine area. It is a big area with many lakes and greens and trees. Local residents spend their time with family or alone to execise their body to keep healthy. You would always meet with sports activities here and there.
There are a few famous hotels nearby in walking distance. The famous Maxwell Hill and the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari is also near the site.
If you are near Taiping, this is a must do place, not to miss.
Located on the road to the Zoo, the Taiping Lake Gardens were originally a tin mining site before it was established as gardens to the public in 1880. The idea of establishing a public garden was much devoted to Colonel Robert Sandilands Frowd Walker. The garden was later developed precisely by Charles Compton Reade (1884 – 1933), who was also responsible for planning the Kuala Lumpur garden town. At 222 acres, the gardens are the biggest urban parkland in Malaysia and contain a total of 8 lakes and are really beautiful. I walked to them on my way to the Zoo on a lovely sunny day and the light was really magical.
It is a must for any visitors to visit the Taiping Lake Garden. Its old beauty and charm will possess you and take you back to the old days. Absolutely beautiful compared to the more contemporary gardens in big cities. It's one of the most beautiful parks in the country, I must say. Also loads of greenery that keep things cool around here.
Taiping Lake Garden is one of the oldest parks in the country. Set up in 1880 to beautify the former mining area, it is a scenic place with lots of flowers, trees and shrubs which in turn form a nice habitat for a variety of birds and insects.
Taiping Lake Gardens was created from used tin mining pools from 1880.
So the name is a misnomer as it is more of a series of pools. There is a road going round the lake and so it is a pleasant drive or walk around the Lake.
The lush green trees and the hills in the background with man-made pavillions and bridges to reflect into the lake make it a refreshing place to charge the spirit and soul.
The Taiping Museum, Taiping Zoo, the Burmese Pools, Maxwell Hills (Bukit Larut), Taiping town, War Cemetry are all around the Taiping Lake.
Was pleasantly surprised to see for the first time for me, a family of monkeys at the Taiping Lake.
They seemed to be well-fed, healthy, contended and in a great mood compared to their cousins that I have seen in Penang, Kedah or Perlis. Perhaps, the cool and placid Taiping Lake is a conducive and thriving environment. I wonder if they are escapees from the neighboring zoos.
Anyway, be careful when you suddenly stop your car at the road side to monkey watch. Better not feed the monkey as their population growth will create more problems.
The land that is now Taiping Lake Garden was chiefly swamp and abandoned mines... In 1884 this large area of land of some 62 hectares was drained, levelled, planted and fenced for a public garden... By 1911, it was regarded as the most beautiful of gardens in then Malaya... It is considered the oldest lake garden in Malaysia... Locate at the foot of Bukit Larut (previously named Maxwell Hill), the Taiping Lake Garden present a serene and panoramic landscape with their lush greenery, lovely lakes and a profusion of colorful flowers and plants. The Taiping Zoo, probably the oldest zoo in the country, is another attraction located within the Gardens. Other facilities available at the Gardens include a rest house, fishing and aquabiking in the area.
The Taiping Lake Garden is the popular garden for the local residents. Today, it has become a recreation area for the locals as well as the tourists. The meandering road around the lake is laced by a row of rain trees with their branches overhanging the road to reach the lakes like giant hands. These trees are about one hundred years old... This has become the symbol of the Taiping Lake Garden...
Taiping Lake Garden is the oldest lake garden in Malaysia. Its originally operated as tin mine in 1880.
In 1996, it has been recognised as the most beautiful public garden in Malaysia.
It is a garden full with activities. During my recent visit, there is a wedding photo shots going on.
You will be amazed with the trees that are planted on the other side of the road but all the branches grown over & across the road 'reaching' for the water in the lake.
From a certain angle, the rows of trees created a perfect arch over the road!
Being the primary attraction in Taiping, the Lake Gardens is a good place to take a walk and practise photography. It consists of a few lakes. The west side of it has a row of rain trees by the roadside which are all more than a hundred years old.
The Taiping Lake together with its garden is one of the most beautiful places in Malaysia. Very good for relaxation and spending some time here.
