Gua Tempurung: Bathroom

by travelpug

There is a bathroom for your convenience. It is RM1 to take a shower. There are only a hand full of bathroom stalls available. It can get crowded at times. It is basic shower that serves the purpose. Don't expect anything fancy.

Gua Tempurung: Grand Tour

by travelpug

This tour is the most adventurous tour of Gua Tempurung. It takes about 3hr 30minutes to 4 hour to complete the whole tour. The last tour starts at around 12 noon. So be there as early as possible. Entrance: RM22 per adult, RM11 for children.First you will be enjoying the beautiful and vast cave at the first quarter of the tour (about 45 minutes). After that, you will descend into the dark side of the cave. Almost the rest of the tour will be totally dark. Needless to say, torch light is a MUST. Part of the tour, visitors have to wade through the river that flows inside the cave. Oh yes, you will be wet for sure. At some parts, visitors have to go through very low ceiling that you have to squad down to walk like a duck. There is a part that visitors have to go through a small opening of the cave. The opening is just barely enough for one person to go through. If you are a bit heavy, ask...

Gua Tempurung: Top of The World Tour

by travelpug

Top of the World Tour is a dry tour. It takes about 45 to 60 minutes one way. You will have to follow a guide. He will explain about the cave and point out to you the interesting rock formations. During the tour, visitors have to climb a series of stairs that was built since 1997. Gua Tempurung is the largest cave in Peninsula Malaysia. It is worth visiting. At the end of Top of the World tour, you are actually standing at about 10 storeys high! Tour costs RM9. It is worth every single cents of it!Tips: Bring a torch light with you. Although there are lights along the way, it is helpful to have extra light.

Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve

by SLLiew

Located near Taiping, the Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve is worth a stop to see the amazing mangrove trees with upward growing breathing aerial roots and branching roots to hold the tree down with the tides and the waves. There is a small exhibition center and a plank walk for you get close the feel of the mangrove forest that used to cover most of Malaysia coastal plains. On the mud floor you can see crabs or even mud skipper fish which can breathe air too. There are birds, even monkeys and snakes. Snakes are the main fear of the mangrove tree cutter who burn the wood collected in charcoal kilns to make charcoal. This Forest Reserve is located off the exit of Taiping Utara (North) of the PLUS highway, between Simpang on the old highway 1 and Kuala Sepatang (previously Port Weld).

Tanjung Malim - Border town to Selangor

by SLLiew

Before the North South Highway was completed, Tanjung Malim was a popular rest stop for a meal or drink as it is strategically located in southern Perak before crossing into Selangor.I still remember the delicious Hainanese Chicken rice probably we were hungry by then.Today, it is by-passed by most travellers except perhaps if you are taking an express bus which will turned off the highway for a stop just outside the town. So many towns in Perak have been affected in this manner when the Highway was finally completed. So if you are driving, you might want to detour and check Tanjung Malim downtown.

Ubudiah Mosque

by muddybok

The Ubudiah Mosque is undeniably the most beautiful mosque in Malaysia. The Ubudiah Mosque, Isatana Kenangan are among some of the best photographic destinations and many photographers had their prized pictures taken from royal town of Kuala Kangsar.Once upon a time, in the Silver Kingdom, there lived an ailing Ruler. Knowing that his days were well numbered, this ruler made a decision - to built the most magnificent mosque in all the lands. He commission the finest architect to design this mosque. It would be placed a short distance from his palace, on a hill near the banks of the Silver River. The mosque was to be called "Ubudiah", which means, "surrender me now to Allah".Sad to say, Sultan Idris Murshidul Adzam Shah I, never saw his masterpiece completed. He departed to the bosom a year before his "Taj Mahal by the Perak River" was completed.
