    BM Train Station

See my earlier post of BM Train Station http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/216e98/, the train station is still beautiful as ever. I was here again with my friend to buy a train ticket to Kuala Lumpur. We were so lucky to see a train come to pick more passengers. Some parts of the train station already torn down especially the overhead bridge.

The train station soon will be demolished, just don't know when...

Even the pussycat will have no home at the train station.

On 19th August 2012, every muslim in the world will celebrate EID or in Malaysia, we refer that as Hari Raya Aidilfitri. I am going to visit a lot of open houses, invited by my many many Malay friends. There will be a lot of good food served in the open house. Commonly you will find, ketupat and beef/chicken rendang, Laksa, mee kuah, bihun soup, bihun goreng, kuih-kuih and many many more.

If you going to one open house, make sure you wish them "Selamat Hari Raya" and give some Duit Raya to the children.

Duit Raya - a small gift of money..

Pictures - the same old gang of friends..

My cousin Gerard, his wife Molly and children Max, Esther Joy and Michael were here for a holiday two weeks ago from Singapore. I was so kind to take a day off and bring them to visit St Anne's Church and later to Puncak Mutiara Cafe for lunch (quite late for lunch at 3.00pm), food was extremely good and delicious and later pay a visit to the animal farms. Hmm...Singaporean never seen animal farm before, and the children were very excited to see the animals.

For the address, please refer to my previous posting.

KTM stand for - Keretapi Tanah Melayu. Bukit Mertajam train station could be one of the oldest station in Malaysia, but Im sure it will be demolised soon to make way for the new double tracking line. This train station situated in the middle of BM town, I dont put this tip under transportation cos, no one sit a train for a short distance journey.

Have a visit here to see the building, the beautiful overhead bridge, the old train carriage, etc and lastly my ugly feet. :-))

My favourite place to visit on Saturday morning. Why I like this market, well you can find and buy everything you want and its much cheaper than other places in Penang. There is a temple to visit, have your breakfast first before you start shopping., then straight to the market.. Get your shopping bag and enough money to spend.. Lets go, follow me to the market

The Chinese believed during the seventh month of chinese calender, the gates of hell are opened and all the ghosts are free to roam in our world for food. The spirit who have family will go home to their decendant house and while the one with no home will wander around for food.

I went to pray Phor Toh Yah the very first time, after staying in BM for so long. I came across this huge effigy of Phor Toh Yah (King of Hades) at Tua Pek Kong temple near BM pasar.. Takut jugak lah tengok.. So Food like roasted pig, roasted chicken, cakes and other foods are prepared for King and the wandering spirit will get their share after the King eat first..

Chinese operas, puppets show and cute girls singing concert for King and wandering spirit to see and enjoy for the whole month of Hungry ghost Festival. Everyone can also join to watch including the wandering ghost..Do not sit at the empty first class VIP seatings, they are reserved for the ghost... Oh yes, and a lot paper money to burn for the wandering spirit..

Oh yes, the huge effigy of King of Hades and lots paper money was burned on 17-8-2011. There are 10,000 of people went to see the event. I missed out cos I was too busy chating away in VT..;-)

Pek Kong Cheng or I will call it "Tua Pek Kong" is one of the oldest chinese temple built in Bukit Mertajam.. Its a place for worship, before or after you go to wet market nearby (My favourite market in BM) or have your breakfast at the food stalls located beside the temple.. There are so many people, locals and tourist coming here..sometimes i do hate coming here when there is no empty parking spot, I need to drive around 3times before Im lucky to get a spot..

Talking about the Tua Pek Kong temple...As you can see the temple is old, look at the building it must be old..I dont know how to describe it..;-)

    Mengkuang Dam

by SLLiew Updated Jan 4, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mengkuang Dam is one of the largest dams in Penang and open in 1985. It has become a popular get-away from bustling Bukit Mertajam town. Open 6am-7:30pm daily.

Once it was used as a venue for the Penang Annual Dragon Boat festival. It is half an hour from town and nice for jogging or having a picnic. Ask the locals for direction.

Near by is a forest recreational park where you can hike up the tarred road and get a magnificent view of the Mengkuang Dam and the surrounding areas. Note that there are many senior citizens who are regular and very fit hikers and can walked up and down very fast on the inclined road. Go at your own pace.

    St. Anne's Church

by SLLiew Updated Jan 4, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a famous church where on St. Anne's day, devotees as well as tourists will gather with a candle procession. For Catholics, St. Anne is worshipped as the mother of Mary.

It was built asa small chapel on a small hill in 1846 by a French priest Adolphe Couellan. There are Chinese characters still visible as the early congregation were mainly Chinese Catholics of Bukit Mertajam.

St. Anne's Day is on Junly 26. Several days especially weekend around this day, thousands will gather for the procession and candle light mass. It can be very crowded and so be careful with young children.

Church is located just outside of Bukit Mertajam, past the hospital and bridge over railway line on the old road towards Alma, Permatang Tinggi and Kulim.
