roti canai and ginger tea....perfection! by ellielou If you saw the intro to my Penang pages, you'll see the end result of eating roti canai. Around Penang, there are several Indian places that all seem to be open 24-hours, staffed by a bunch of Indian men in matching outfits. I'm not sure you can go very wrong at these places...plus, if you don't understand the menu, you can go up to the front, where the food is being served, and just point. Mee Goreng ..spicy yet tantalising by kenyneo Indian food ( Part 3 of 3 ) --------------- For Indian Food try the Nasi kandar at Kayu in Penang Road ...try the Ayam Madu ( Honey Chicken ) which they are famous for ...and if you cannot find this place there are plenty of Nasi kandar stalls along Penang Road . And the Mee Goreng in Esplanade is damn cool ( I think even malaysian should try it ) its quite spicy though. So for those who cannot take spicy food ..pls ask the stall keeper to have Mercy on you ...the sauce and squids are awesome ...( as there are a few stalls selling the same thing there be careful. ) if you are coming from the main road the stall if on the left end of the foodcourt ) ...just watch for the busiest non stop stall ...hope you will find it ! BANANA LEAF RICE Well for those who love banana leaf rice , with yummy curry and cruncy papadam..head for Banana Leaf restaurant in Burmah Square. The ambience is good and price is reasonable

White rice served on banana leaf with assortment of vegetables, papedom and curried dishes. Best eaten with hands. Don't forget to ask for yogurt, it goes well with the rice. Rasem, a spicy soury drink is taken with the meal. RM4.00 to RM7.00 per serving. Also must try the lassi (yogurt) drink. For good banana leaf rice, try Kaliamans at Little India, Jaya's at Gelugor or Passion of Kerala at Jalan Chow Thye. by Imbi Loved that colourful building, it is not just beautiful outside but centrally located. What about food? Sorry I did not go inside so no comments about the food but they will not charge anything if you look at the building from outside. Leave a Comment Theme: Indian

This small cafe featured freshly prepared Indian food. It is a family run cafe with all family members working to prepare and serve the food, including the mother and aunt of the cook. We had breakfast here twice and then they prepared for us a wonderful meal of fish head curry, vegetables and rice. The food was fresh, well cooked and not overly spicy and the family members were very friendly, even responding to Susan's interest in cooking by involving her in the preparation of our breakfast chapatis. There are many stylish Indian restaurants in Batu Ferringhi, but this one was a small, open stall producing authentic, tasty and amazingly cheap food.
Fish Head curry was prepared specially for us, and was excellent, not overly hot, and balanced by spicy vegetables and both buttered and stemed rice. With a mango lassi and a lime juice each, this meal came to about 35 RM. by RAINBOWWINGS A huge open air Indian restaurant , The Jewel of the North, on the main road of Batu Ferringhi won our hearts after our first visit, so we ate there every night and had a different type of curry every time, and every one of them was delicious. Really good prices and we usually had two dishes plus a vegetable dish and then rice, naan bread and a couple of beers all came to approx. $25 for both of us. They also serve breakfast and lunch so are open from 7.30am to 11pm 7 days a week.
I think the prawn remshi was my favourite but the vegetable jalfrezi was a close second.
