There are 2 oriental seafood restaurant on Penang island. One is in Gurney Drive and one is on Macalister road. However, the one on Macalister road is cheaper because you dont have sea view.
Dont feel suprise if I tell you my the favourite dish from a seafood restaurant is satay. Satay from the oriental is just different from satay outside. The satay gravy is not separated as we usually eat. It was spread on the satay and before the satay put on the pit. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodAddress: Macalister road

A restaurant on holy ground by itchybum A totally unique experience in more ways than one. Enjoy the sea breeze as you sit beside a small cove guarded by pre-WWII beach fortification left behind by the British. The restaurant itself is on the premises of a temple. Actually, its more than a restaurant but a conglomeration/collective of different food vendors each selling their own speciality: crabs and prawns, fried noodles, satay and grilled seafood and shellfish.
The main restaurant specialises in crabs and prawns and they don't offer a wide menu. Just choose how many kilos of crabs and/or prawns you want and they'll cook it in their own special unique way: simply with salt and pepper. This allows you to enjoy the true fresh flavours of the crab and prawns. Yumm. by SLLiew Located at the coastal road south of Penang Bridge and opposite of Motorola factory is Penang Fisherman Wharf. Great place to have seafood with a nice view of the sea. There is an aircondition as well as outdoor and private rooms. Fresh fish to pick and particularly like the dry steamed crabs with yolk here. Ample free parking. The restaurant also have karaoke room where you can sing after dinner. There is a half a Statue of Liberty - perhaps to attract attention. But it does look the same one that was in front of "Liberty Club" a downtown eatery that was closed many years ago. Place can be busy if there is a wedding dinner here. So call ahead. This is probably one of those off the beaten track kind of restaurant. As we drive through along the coastal road leading to Batu Maung I am wondering if it's worth the drive. Then we turned into small road, which leads us to Sam Poh Temple, we continued driving until we see a private shipyard. Ok, you see boats around, some luxury yatch...interesting...and when you finally arrive at the restaurant - Whoa! What a nice view of the sea!! It is one of those "kelong" style restaurant very rustic feeling. We arrived there around 5pm, the restaurant was not opened yet, luckily we had some TIGER, so we sat there and enjoy the view. I was wondering if the food was as good as the view? You kow how some places are - good view and deco but the food sucks big time? WELL! You will not be disappointed with this place. The food is just as good as the sea view. The owner gets fresh seafood from the fishermen who come by after their catch. Beside the great and cheap food and view, what is great about this place is that it is the best kept secret, i.e, hardly any tourists. Unless you work and stay around Batu Muang, your Penang friend may not even know of its existence! It is not in any guide book! Great! That means, the owner will not have a chance to raise his price...more cheap good food!
Choose any seafood, it is wonderfully fresh! The best way to eat fresh fish, is to simply steamed the fish with simple ingredients like ginger, spring onions and soy sauce to bring out the sweetness of the fresh fish. The prawns were really BIG sweet and succulent. However, it would have been better if my friends had decided to go for the Curry Leaves and Cereal Prawns as supposed to TomYam Soup. Sorry, I am not a big Tom Yam fan. by SLLiew I enjoy eating at this seafood restaurat because it is the only restaurant that is next to the sea waves. You cross a small bridge to the restaurant on stilts over the sea. The other seafood restaurants of Gurney Drive are separated by road from the sea. You can choose your live seafood from tanks and there is an ample selection from lobsters, crabs and to the more exotic marine life. It is popular with tour packages but it is nice to eat next to the sea with the gentle breeze blowing at night. This dish is a much-loved local favourite which consists of a large fish head (usually red snapper), okra, brinjal/eggplant and tomatoes simmered in an aromatic spicy curry. The curry is very full-bodied due to the extensive use of Indian spices. Take your time to look for and pick out the sweet fish meat from the crevices of the fish head, dip in some curry and savour! The eyes and cheek of the fish head (if dining with locals, they will usually help you out with locating these) are considered the best parts of the fish. I personally can't stomach eating an eyeball so for the brave ones, just dig in! Usually served together with plates of steamed rice.
Found in most Indian Curry shops around Penang. Leave a Comment

by Linda_T A huge place, which I imagine would get very noisy when full. You can book a table close to the sand and watch the sunset. The only problem is that it's more expensive than other places, though you should go at least once for the experience. Also they when you get the bill there was a charge for the wet hand towels they provided as well as a 5MR charge for "titbits"they served on arrival.

Alfresco dining by 3rippin As I mentioned before Gurney Drive is a food-lover?s delight. If you crave for something other than hawker fare, I recommend Golden Thai Restaurant. You can get a bang for your buck in terms of fresh seafood, anything from lobsters and crabs to groupers and sea bass. You can pick your live fish or desired seafood fresh from the tank and have the chefs prepare it for you the way you like it.
Everything but barbecue fish. I prefer the local Malaysian style of BBQ fish. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Gurney Drive
