Road side night bazaar - more than 100 stores: Night bazaar

    by l_joo Updated Apr 15, 2004

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

At night if you go to Batu Ferringhi which is along the road where The Ship restaurant located and the Lone Pine hotel.

A place quite similar to Bangkok's Khao San road except that this one has luxurious hotel surrounded to make it a distinct feel of Islanders rather than the backpackers' heaven.

Shoppers are luxurious class but items on sale are still as cheap from VCDs to Batik clothings and many other stuffs.

    What to pay: Mostly budget

    Shopping on Penang

    - Souvenirs at Kek Lok Si
There is a covered winding passage filled with traders selling souvenirs that leads you up to the temple.

    - Komtar
The biggest shopping landmark is KOMTAR (Kompleks Tuanku Abdul Rahman) at Jalan Penang.

    - Jalan Penang with Komtar in the centre, offers good value for clothes, shoes, electronics and everyday goods. Opposite Komtar there is a collection of small shops offering batik, jewellery, pewter, and handicraft.

    - Lebuh Bishop and Lebuh Chulia are good places for curios and antiques while Jalan Kapitan Keling is noted for Indian goldsmiths.

    - Penang is well known for its mobile night market, or 'pasar malam' which offers goods ranging from household items to clothes, knick-knacks and food.

Penang's Times Square: Empty Shopping Mall

by walterwu Written Sep 14, 2013

Times Square in Kuala Lumpur is famous.

However, Times Square in Penang is much more of an empty shell with only a few shops open and much of the food court stalls closed.

    Can give it a miss.
