Here you can walk around with butterflies flying all around you and watch them feast on slices of fruit put out on special tables for them. You can also reptiles and other animals. The indoor insects and spiders enclosure is also great. Only takes about 45min to walk around the whole thing but is worth it anyway.

Opened in 1986 the Butterfly Farm provides an opportunity for visitors to be surrounded by butterflies at close hand as they walk through the tropical plants. The covered farm contains thousands of butterflies, there are insects & reptiles there too.
The farm has a web site which gives lots of information about the place & its activities.

if you wear some very bright multicolored clothings... eg colorful batiks,
they'll literally swamp you, and will not leave you even if you blow them away....
and you can walk out of the farm with 'em still stuck on you.
I think that wouldn't constitute butter-napping them from the farm,
afterall, it's them who's not letting you go.....

well worth the drive to experience not only magnificent butterflys but amazing plant life too. make sure you allow some browsing time for the shop as the displays are great(not just butterflys). we hired a driver and stopped at the batik factory, on to the butterfly farm and then the fruit farm. a leisurely morning before hitting the shops in town again

Only a small place, but so very worth a visit. Children will love it, it was one of the highlights of the holiday for my younger daughter.
Great to to see butterflies in all their stages of development. Even adults have to be thrilled at the amount of butterflies that will land on heads, shoulders and bodies!!
We were not charged for taking in the camera, as another visitor has reported on her blog.I suspect it may depend on who is on the reception at the time!!
It can get very humid in there, so take plenty of water.
If my surly teenager can enjoy this excursion, I reckon any one can!!

We visited the Butterfly Farm in Teluk Bahang, Penang, a sanctuary for over 120 species of rare and exotic tropical butterflies. The farm is complete with a hatchery and a "Preserved Butterflies of the World" museum.
The farm is home to up to 3,000 living specimens of over 50 species of colourful and charming butterflies. Situated on an area of eight hectares, it is the world's first tropical live butterfly farm. Apart from the butterflies, there are also frogs, fishes, and other insects here living in their natural habitat. The beauty of the place is enhanced by a lily pond, a rock garden, and artificial waterfalls. Other attractions at the farm include a breeding area, laboratory, exhibition area, souvenir shops and an information centre.
While I was looking at the preserved butterflies, I found a beautiful butterfly with my name on it (see picture); and it's in blue color, one of my favorite colors.

You may stop to see other living creature in the aquarium and just pass a glance towards this huuuuuuuuuuuge 'stone'.
Thats what I thought until I read the signage near the aquarium. What u see here is called Alligator Snapper which comes from the fresh water turtle family.
The next ic shows when it strecth its neck for air I presume.... Unique & interesting creature. Dont miss to check her babies in the small aquarium. The angle was not right for me to take a shot of them.

At first glance you may pass them as flowers flowing down from the pot hanging above.
Even when ppl start taking pictures near it, u may still be wondering what so unique about the flowers!!!
When u look closer, they are not flowers but moth. Plenty of them are seen 'landed' on the hanging leafs. Look for them when u visited Penang Butterfly farm.
The most moth seen are on the plant near the snakes aquarium before the 'Hide & Seek' Garden

Its called butterfly. Plenty and colourful butterflies can be seen here at Penang Butterfly Farm. Depending on the traffic going towards Feringghi Beach, from the town it may take about an hour to reach Teluk Bahang.
Putting it as the top itinerary of the day is good, as you need good sunlight to capture this beautiful creature. Depending on your interest you may spend more than 3 hours in the farm alone as you cant stop pressing your camera button.
Guilty as charge that it was me who spent more than 3 hours in the farm. Simply irresistable!

The butterfly farm covers an area of .8 hectares and has over 3,000 butterflies, frogs, scorpions and other creatures to see.
We saw snakes, lizards , even spiders. The butterflies are lovely to look at and if your lucky they will even land on you.
the entry cost is RM12.50 for adults and RM6.25 for children. be aware that if you take a camera in with you you will have to pay for that too.
they are open weekdays 9am to 5pm and weekends 9am to 6pm
