Goddess of Mercy (Quan Yin) Temple: Kuan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) Temple
The temple is also dedicated to Ma Chor Poh, the virgin goddess of mercy and saint to sea voyagers. The high roof of the main hall is supported by dragon-entwined pillars carved from a type of green stone. The statue of Kuan Yin as a serenely composed woman with 18 arms sits on an inner chamber.

Goddess of Mercy (Quan Yin) Temple: Watch the Eastern devotional rhites.
The temple of the Godess of Mercy, Good Fortune, Peace and Fertility (All that is what Kwan Yin Ten seems to stand for) is at the heart of Chinatown and, for this reason, one of the liveliest in Penang. It is particularly popular with the Hokkien and Cantonese Community of Penang. At the time of our visit, it was full of worshippers burning incense and offering gifts to the Gods.

Goddess of Mercy (Quan Yin) Temple: An Actively Used Temple
The temple was built in 1800 by Chinese immigrants and, thus, is one of the oldest in Penang. This is a temple in active usage as evidenced by the large number of Chinese bowing/kow-towing, praying, and offering sacrifices to the goddess and the massive amount of soot in the temple. The roof is delicately decorated with figures of people and mythical dragons and the entrance is guarded by two sculptured lions.

Be mindful of people praying inside and try not to indiscriminately take pictures (especially with a flash). There's no admission fee but a donation (a container is provided) is highly appreciated.
