by Audrey118 At the hill top, you will see the official name of Penang Hill as Flagstaff Hill...Bukit Bendera.... it is becos the flagstaff here was used to signal to the flagstaff at Fort Cornwallis Leave a Comment

by sunnywong Covered with jungle growth and 20 nature trails, the hill is great for trekking. Or you can go to Ayer Hitam, a town in the central part of Penang, and take the Keretapi Bukit Bendera funicular railway to the top. It sends trains up and down the hill every half hour from 6:30am to 10:30pm weekdays and until midnight on weekends, and costs RM4 for adults and RM2 for children. If you prefer to make the trek on foot, go to the "Moon Gate" at the entrance to the Botanical Gardens for a 5.5-kilometer (9-mile), 3-hour hike to the summit. Cable Train Station by Audrey118 From the Botanic Gardens we went to the Penang Hill. You better have time - esplly on the weekend...lots of local folks and school kids love to take a ride up to the hill for cooler temperatures. It is about 2-3 degree cooler than at the foot hill. It is located not far from the Ayer Itam. The queue system was driving me nuts...when we were there we just missed the quota for the tram ride. So we had to wait for the next quota. So we had to stand in line and wait for all those passengers to get up their train before we could even pay for out tickets. Once you got the tickets you have to sit around 1/2 hour or so to wait for another train to move down for us. The ride up is two parts - you sort of change train mid way. Leave a Comment
