I can't really say that I like monkeys too much. Yes, they're cute and everything but they're also very unpredictable and can attack even if not intimidated. When you exit the funicular at the hills summit, be warned that monkeys are around and, of course, they'll be on the look out for any food.
and turn out to be a fiery one ! Becareful when you take a visit to Botanical Garden. Of course the garden itself is so cooling and a sanctuary for even the locals ,,,,
I used to take a walk after work and breath in the cool fresh air . There are so many routes that you can choose , just be sure you remember them . But when you see a group of monkeys around , its better to stay away cause they can be very aggresive at times ( they are attracted to shiny things , food and sometimes just afraid that you might wanna hurt their babies ! )
Do not feed them ! Else you wanna take chances , they have bitten people before , so its really not advisable to go near them ....
But dont forget to take pics of their babies from afar ..they can be very CUTE and irresistable !
I met many monkeys during my travels, both in the wild and in the cities. As with all animals, I always respect them and treat them with great care.
I would have never thought to be attacked by a group of angry monkeys in a public park of downtown Penang. They did bite me on both my legs while I was trying to run away from them: of course local people (and kids) were laughing at me (I can understand it looked like a funny scene) but it was not a pleasant experience.
Macaques have been a tourist attraction for years in the botanical garden area. Tourists love to feed them with peanuts, but they had become a problem since their number was constantly increasing and they were destroying the vegetation of the garden. They can even be agressive to get their food.
The local authorities have used birth control methods, but you can see still some monkeys around.
They may be a bit naughty, but don't they look cute, especially the babies?
Fortunately, I didn't have any issues with agressive monkeys during my stay. Just don't feed or tease them and you should be fine.
Don't feed the wild monkeys at Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si. If u do they will come and attack your food.
This Monkey seems very pity , but once we try to play with it , he grap our pepsi and gulp the entire bottle .
Now we know why he is caged up.
Beware of penang monkeys , they can be aggresive.
But do not forget that they can bite, especially the dominant males, like this one, which had a big scarg in his nose.
