by moomoos This place specialises in wine for wine fanatics. Prices range from cheap to expensive. If you can see the coffeeshop next to it, it's a shop selling duck rice. And I think it has sells of the island's best duck rice!!! This stall also has home boiled herbal soups which are delicious. Prices are reasonable. Leave a Comment Address: Burmah Road, Pulau Tikus.

Funicular railway by phil_uk_net An unexpectedly pleasant excursion. Unexpected because I did not know anything about Penang Hill beforehand. A funicular railway in 2 sections takes visitors to the top of the hill for a great view of the island. It is a nice piece of Swiss engineering. The top of the hill is 831m above sea level. On the way up you will see troops of monkeys (long-tailed macaques, I think) and maybe a few individual monkeys at the top scavenging around rubbish bins. There is a Hidu temple and a mosque at the top of the hill. There is also a hotel with a balcony restaurant which is good for a snack and drink. The balcony has jade vines growing over it to provide some shade. If you look carefully at the vines you will see small, green pit vipers coiled up! Don't worry. They won't fall on to your table and they will leave you alone if you leave them alone. The last train back is at 9pm and the return train ride costs 4 ringgits. Kek Lok Si Temple, built on a hill in Air Itam began in the year 1890 and took more than two decades to complete. This is the largest Buddhist Temple complex in Malaysia and one of the finest in South-East Asia. And since it's renovation last year, it's looking even better. On the steps up to the temple, there are stalls selling all sorts of stuffs (T-shirts/dress/batik clothing/ornaments/toys). It's good fun. by moomoos If you happen to be around during the mooncake festival, you've got to try the mooncakes!!! They are really yummie. There will a lot of lanterns hanging everywhere during this festival as well. The Mooncake Festival commemorates the overthrow of the Mongols, when the insurgent revolutionary leaders, by way of smuggling secret messages in mooncakes, called the people to revolt. The secret messages contained the time and date of the revolution because public meetings were forbidden. This led to the overthrow of the oppressive Mongol rulers and the liberation of the people*. by moomoos It's a walk through butterfly farm. You can look at different kinds of butterflies in a huge aviary...the butterflies are free flying!!! Sometimes they land on you, and the kids (and some adults as well) usually get all excited! Pretty cool, unless you have butterfly phobia (like me!). I went there a couple of times...and tried really hard to avoid the butterflies from landing on me. Leave a Comment Address: It's at the north of the island, in Teluk Bahang.
