 | Petaling Jaya Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 44 | | Popular Restaurants | Miscellaneous Restaurants Tips | All Tips (44) The famous Kajang satay (also spelled as “sate” sometimes) has arrived in Petaling Jaya. There are a number of famous satay stalls out in Kajang, and each claims to be the Best or the “Original”. Well, one of them that has successfully branched out of Kajang is Sate Kajang Haji Samuri. According to the Company's website (yes, they ARE that big), the founder, Haji Samuri used to work at Telecom Malaysia, till he ventured out on his own. Along with 6 workers, he set up his first gerai ("stall") at one of the satay stalls behind Stadium Kajang in 1992. Since then, his business has prospered and the company now employs 300 people! Among their branches are at Dengkil Rest Area, Sg Buloh Overhead Restaurant (North Klang Valley - PLUS - Expressway) and Subang Jaya. The newest branch is at Damansara Utama, at the row, behind the Maybank row. The shop had been done up quite nicely, it is tidy and clean, with antique clocks and old typewriters as decorations. If you ask me, I thought it looked rather English, rather than Malaysian to me, but it was the thought that counts!
We tried satay chicken and satay beef, both are at only 50 sen a stick. They were a good size, and without the fatty bits that you sometimes get at the generic road-side satay vendors. The accompanying peanut sauce was good. For those who like their sauce with a bit of ?kick?, just add on a spoonful of the thick chili paste that is served in a separate bowl. I found this to be a great idea, because if you are dining with the kids who prefer a less spicy and milder sauce, you can skip the chili paste. They are rather generous with the sauce and a large bowl of sauce was given for the two of us. For something different: We tried a few sticks of satay rusa (deer meat) and found the texture to be similar to beef, but slightly less chewy. It was RM1.30 per stick. They also have satay arnab (rabbit meat), perut (cow?s stomach) and other tasty types of satay. They also serve fresh fruit juices, coffee and tea and a uniquely Malaysian desert called ABC or ice kacang (shavings of ice, smothered with syrup and evaporated milk, sprinkled with coloured jelly bits, chendol and chopped peanuts). Delicious on a hot summer's day! (and since every day IS a summer's day in Malaysia, what are you waiting for? LOL) From VT "insider" information, the best sate is to be found at the KESAS outlet: address: ABW 8, Perhentian Awan Besar Kesas Highway, Sri Petaling, Selangor Darul Ehsan. UPDATE: April 2006 Opens for lunch and dinner, except on Fridays. Due to Friday prayers, the shop only opens from 3pm onwards. To avoid dissapointment, it is best to call first before making your way there. Great prices, good value for money chicken rice can be found here at Section 20, Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya. A clean coffee-shop that sells only chicken rice that is popular with office workers and local residents. Unlike the previous tips on my Petaling Jaya pages, this tip has nothing to do with Sunway Lagoon Themepark, but if you would care to take a drive, it would take you 30 mins from Sunway Lagoon. : D Updated Aug 2007: This restaurant has moved. It is now at Paramount Garden, on the same row as O&S Coffeeshop, near Paramount Post Office.

The kids and you will really build up an appetite when you're at Sunway Lagoon. There are numerous snack outlets. One of my favourites is located near the entrance of the Waters of Africa water park: Cape Town Cafe. You can take it to the nearby covered area which is located just in front of this cafe. There are bench tables and chairs at this covered area which overlooks the African Pythons and Cameroon Climb.
Check out the chicken burgers & hot-dogs or fried chicken. Best value: Curry Puffs - Five pieces for under RM5 Don't forget to grab a drink too! Leave a Comment Theme: Fast FoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Sunway Lagoon |
very populat place, with excellent fresh prawns, and live crab - they have three types of crab - from Australia, Indonesia and local. Go for the Indonesian the least - if not the Aussie ones. A must to take friends from overseas!!! After that we adjourn to have durians which is up the road.
Sang Har Meen (Fresh Prawns Noddles with gravy), butter crabs (lai yow hai), taufoo with gourd vegetable (chi kua taufoo), honey fried squid, if the crowd is huge their suckling pig is good. simple fare, simple decoration - You will like it if you like dim sum amixed of Cantonese and Shanghainese - all my Aussie friends love it.
steamed fish ball, steamed spare ribs, steamed pork dumpling (siu mai), steamed and also baked pork buns with sugary topping and many more. The sharkfin dumpling is the best in KL - much much better than those served in the reknown hotels Chinese restaurants. fried Prawn dumpling coated with almond slivers and studded with some mango It is mainly a dim sum house, with the chefs trained by Hong Kong chefs....so it is as good as Hong Kong. Rojak or 'mixed'. A term if i would to translate it to english. Whatever is it, it's delicious and a little spicy. And to go with it, 'cendol' a sort of cooling sweet desert. Granted, the main branch I went to was off the main track in Petaling Jaya but it came highly recommended. There're no rooms for ambience - dirty oily floors, white tiles and standard flourescent whte light - you came here solely for one thing - the FOOD. (If you want your ambience, go elsewhere) They do have 2 floors though. The 2nd floor mercifully offered air-conditioning as the wok heat emanting from the kitchen and from the charcoal grill for the satays can get the bottom floor stuffy and humid as hell.... Business hrs: 5.30 - 11.30pm Closed on Mondays. There are 2 more branches located inside The Mines Resort City and along Jalan Pandan Indah 4/6.
1) The crabs - you can have plain steamed or with spicy tangy sauce. (Spicy tangy as in tamarind-like and not tomato ketchup-like) If you like crab roes, have it plain steamed. You'll taste the real flavour of fresh crabs rich with roe. Personally, I find the spicy tangy version weird...but all the customers are going for it. All tables also ordered slices of toasted bread for dipping the sauce with. 2) The fried rice. Wok perfect. For picture of the spicy tangy crab, please see my photologue on KL's glorious food. This is the 24 hours Indian Restaurant situated inside centrepoint, just around the corner where I live. Many spicy foods/gourmets that we can choose from... I somehow don't like to come here often as the place is expensive for me although affordable to some people, not me... This is what I love about eating cheap in Malaysia or even anywhere else for that matter ! We could get it real cheap & spicy just by the road sides. In the old days, the Indians (normally called MAMAK...) would cycle their food stalls around the villages, sometimes shouting about the foods that they carried... Long gone those days ( but hey ! You might see this sight if you go in some small towns all over Malaysia...) but for a bustling area like Bandar Utama & PJ, there are still these Mamaks selling their foods real cheap but driving a van nowadays... I would buy something from them for sure, whether as takeaways or eating while walking; Too bad that even some Malaysians never experience this in their life !...
The foods are spicy normally, some snacks & some drinks... Leave a Comment Theme: Local |
