    Sunway Lagoon...

by coceng Written Apr 10, 2004

If the previous photo was taken by me before setting my feet on the bridge, then this photo was taken while I was 'hanging' on the bridge...looking back to capture the entrance where I started from...Well, you get the idea anyway.

If you are here in KL, make sure you are 'hanging' on this suspension bridge in Sunway Lagoon !

The tunnel actually is leading to the Water Park also, if you don't want to enter the Water Park through the normal entrance.
You come to another side of the Water Park where the (artificial) beach is waiting for you !

Went through this tunnel...To me it looks funny.
Because the tunnel wanted to be looked like that it's old & abandoned, so they painted the dark spots here & there on the walls; Instead it looks tacky...

These are the water slides...Is that what we call them ? Correct me here.
Just like all those slidings in the water parks in the West !
Notice the structures at the high top ? They are just replicas of the Mayan civilizations...well, something like that anyway.

Another one, close-up, taken by me !

Lingbi rocks are produced within the soil. When excavations have been going on for many years, the pits are many tens of feet deep. They are thickly encrusted with mud and only when the locals have scrapped off two or three layers with iron knives, is the rock revealed. After this, the rocks are brushed clean and glossy with brushes of bamboo. Some of these rocks have cemented earth at their base, which cannot be removed.

The best of the Lingbi rocks have twisting and turning shapes. Some are forms of animals, others mountain ranges with cliffs pierced by cavities, Buddhist images, even scenery of the four seasons. These have to be chiseled, ground and polished to complete their beauty.

The large collection of scholar rocks in the Adventure Park, Sunway Lagoon showcases mostly Lingbi rocks. This collection is the largest and most comprehensive in the world.

    Here's a close-up on one of them...
Here's also the source from Internet :

The traditional Chinese scholar spent years studying ancient classics and philosophical treaties in hopes of passing the Civil Service Examination. Passing this examination allowed him to enter governmental service, the key to entrance into a life of privilege, social status, politics and aesthetics. Within his room for study and contemplation, he surrounded himself with treasures - one of which was scholar rocks.

These rocks were associated with human virtues, like strength and resilience. It is believed that a stone can suggest nobility, patience, stability and the virtuous contemplation of nature.

Scholar rocks were first collected during the Song dynasty (960 - 1279). Since then, they have held continuing appeal for Chinese scholars through the later dynastic era

    comprising the Yuan (1279 - 1368), Ming (1368 - 1644), and Qing (1644 - 1911) periods.

Scholar rocks range from miniature examples no more than an inch in height to large ones that may stand five feet tall.

The most prized scholar rocks are of limestone so densely structured that it is capable of emitting a bell-like ring when tapped. They are displayed individually and characteristically presented on a carved wooden stand.

Scholar rocks range from white to gray to black. The most prized are black stones from Lingbi - in Anhui province, China. The term is often applied broadly to gray or black stones with wrinkled surfaces that have a pronounced resonance when struck.
