    Surfing at Sunway Lagoon

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Mar 29, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    surf's up

Budding surfers who can't travel to Bali or Australia may want to visit Sunway Lagoon. Although I don't surf, I find that it's still fun to watch the surfers there. On weekends, you can see them competing hard to see who can top the other in showing off their moves.

For the less adventurous, there's lots of fun to be had at the wave pool. The water there is heated and it is so comfortable to soak in it, and be gently bounced around by the man-made waves.

    Surfing Hours
    Weekends and School Holidays Only

    Body Board: 2.30pm-3.30pm
    Surfing: 4.30pm-5.30pm

Picture shows the wave pool, not the surf pool

Sunway Lagoon-Opening Hours & Where to Park

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Mar 25, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Sunway Lagoon

The Park's entrance is being refurbished. At the moment, the Park's Ticketing Counter & Entrance is temporarily located on LEVEL 3 of the Multi-storey Car Park, which also serves the Pyramid Shopping Centre and Sunway Convention Centre.

Tickets may be purchased for ALL PARK or WATER PARK. Chidren aged 3-12 and senior citizens have a discounted ticket. Children below 3 enter for free.

    Opening Hours:
    Mon, Wed, Thur & Fri 11 am - 6pm
Sat, Sun, School & Public Hol 10 am - 6pm
Closed on Tuesdays except during Malaysian school holidays and public holidays

I personally prefer just the Water Park because my kids & I don't enjoy the roller coaster or fast rides. They're too young for most of the rides available in the Dry Park. Also, we're all water babies!!

    Park Attractions

Located just 15 minutes from Petaling Jaya and 30 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Lagoon has something for everyone.

When this park first opened in 1992, I rushed there with two of my colleagues. It was such a memorable experience that we continue to talk about the experience and it feels like just yesterday that we were there!

I visited late last year and again in March 2005 and lately, I've noticed that the rides have been changed to become more family oriented. Children & teens will certainly enjoy their time here.

Update: For those who want to try a new theme park, the Sunway Group has created a new park called The Lost World of Tambun, Ipoh. The water slides there are even bigger than the ones here at Sunway Lagoon.

    Waters of Africa

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Apr 9, 2005

    Waters of Africa

My favourite park within Sunway Lagoon is the Waters of Africa, which is the Water Park. As mentioned before, you can buy a ticket just for the water park alone. Frankly, for those who enjoy the water rides, a full day is not enough and if you buy an ALL PARK ticket, you shall be rushing too much.

The picture shows the entrance to the Waters of Africa, and in the background are a few castle towers. They do look really authentic don't they? The best thing is you don't have to actually walk down the long path to get to the water park. There is an escalator that you get on which will take you to the locker & change room areas and the Water Park entrance.

    sliding face down

Take your family and friends on the Congo Challenge. For me, this is one of the best & most fun slides for all the family Children can also go on this ride (if they are above 1.1 m tall) too.

Grab a rubber mat, climb up a short distance, get into your racing lanes, wait for the whistle and off you go. May the best man win!

    Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls are a key feature at Sunway Lagoon. The falls splash from high up where the parking area is down towards the waver pool area. Lots of kids & adults love to stand right under the falls for a splashy shower.

    Cameroon Climb

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Apr 9, 2005

    land with a splash!

One of my personal favourite rides - get shot down the Cameroon Climb with your best pal. Seated in a double tube, you will shoot down a steep slide. Suddenly, you will feel like you're flying suspended in the air for a split second, before you crash down the slide and water splashes all around you and up again, before travelling backwards.

Go for it! You'll love it for sure.

Even my mother went on this ride and enjoyed it. So it is a good ride for all ages.

    A Dreamy Ride

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Apr 11, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    yellow tubes

The African Pythons ride is a three-in-one kind of ride. Grab a pal, get hold of a brightly coloured large double tube and make your way up the stairs to the top.

You can choose to ride completely in the dark, or or out in the open. For me, I love to close my eyes and let the slide take me around, sliding here and there in the pitch dark, before landing with a big splash.
It's simply exhilitating - some kind of adrenaline high I guess!

A MUST TRY when you are at Sunway Lagoon.

This ride is open to adults and kids above 1.1 m tall.

    Water Park Entrance

    Water Park Entrance

After getting off the escalator, you'll pass by a cheerful & colourful shop that sells souveniors, sun block and swimwear. Next is the locker and change rooms. Immediately after this is the Water Park Entrance.

At the Water Park Entrance, your wrist tag will be subtly checked by the staff stationed there before you enter the Park. Each wrist tag will state the date, and whether it is for ALL PARK or WATER PARK.

Kalahari Kids - a New Attraction for the Kids

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Apr 9, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Kalahari Kids

One of the newest attractions for kids is the Kalahari Kids park. It is very attractive, with a number of slow & gentle water slides, a mother hippo and baby hippo that look very real and best is the gigantic bucket which fills up and randomly pours down on unsuspecting kids. When that happens, you can hear the kids screaming with delight. For me, Ifound it rather hypnotic to watch the gigantic bucket tip right and left and fill up and you've got to be wondering when it is going to make it's next move! LOL!!

What a shame for us adults because Kalahari Kids is only for those under 12.

    The Galleon

    Galleon

The Galleon which looks like a pirate ship is among the rides you can take when you have an ALL PARK pass. This ride was closed for maintenance on the day that we were there, but some naughty kids were playing on the ship when I took the picture.

A favourite with the kids-Ahoy there!

    by Wild_Orchid Updated Aug 9, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Ship ahoy!

Waterplay is certainly fun for the kids when there's a ship to be explored. With nooks and cranies to be explored, slides and rope sails to climb, the young ones will be happy to spend hours here. Apart from that, it is certainly attractive with bright colours that will certainly charm the young ones.

PS. I have to admit to having tried out the "baby" slides that are on this ship too. (hehe)

MPPJ FC - The Malaysian Champions.

    by st_hannes Written Jun 12, 2004

    You wanna piece of me?

I don't know why most PJ folks throng mamak shops at night to get a glimpse of EPL teams who are ignorant of our existence..

We pay cable tv, and support their astronomical salaries, and do they even stop over here and give our kids some footie lesson? Nope, they go to Singapore and Thailand instead..

And when they do arrive here, they give us athrashing and hide in their hotel rooms. No walk around Bintang Walk or get together with the fans at the local mamak shop where we bestow them their legendary status.

Sorry, but believe it or not, PJ footie fans have their own champions in the form of MPPJ FC. Being the first club to win the coveted Malaysia Cup, the attack, spearheaded by the remarkable Juan Manuel Arostegui is a sight to behold.

With their fluent passing game and excellent showmanship, they have been the envy of state teams, long plagued by notions of corruption and power struggle.

Tickets for a Premier League game is a snip at RM10.That, plus unlimited post-game photo opportunities. And don't worry, they don't go hiding in their hotel rooms after the game..

One of the interesting Malls in PJ

    by city_guy Written Dec 28, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    AmCorp Mall

AmCorp Mall, the landmark where the LRT Station is located. Opposite you will find Taman Jaya, a recreational lake and garden and further up, PJ State.

This mall hosts the best 'Flea Market' in Malaysia where every Sunday(From 10am - 5pm) 5 floors of the shopping mall walkingarea is turned into a flea market. It is the 1st flea market in Malaysia and still is the best with items from antiques, records, collectables and various other interesting items can be found here. Heck, even I have a stall there on the 1st floor on every 3rd Sunday of the month.

Besides the Flea Market, many other various shops selling toys till clothes are available. Food outlets are a many as well with a cinema and book store on the 3rd floor.

Place tends to get crowded by 11am on Sundays.

    Menara MPPJ

The Menara MPPJ (MPPJ Tower) is probably the most notable landmark of PJ. This ultra-modern 27 storey building is among the tallest building in PJ. The building housed the offices of the Petaling Jaya municipal council.
