Kijal Things to Do

If you happen to stay in Strawberry Kijal Resort while in Kijal, there's plenty of stuff to do here. For instance you can just go for leisurely stroll at Teluk Senanjang beach whih is fronting the resort or go fishing at the rocky area at Teluk Senanjang.

The lobby of this Resort is quite impressive. Set up with immensely high ceilings in the style of a traditional Malay house, the structure allows for good ventilation of the lobby area.

You can lounge around at the lobby lounge area and have a drink. When you check-in you shall be offered a welcome drink, which I recall was rather delicious. Hotel guests are served in a unique mug that is shaped like a guitar, with a flower in top, but no, before you ask, you can't take it home with you!

Apart from the lobby lounge, reception area and tourist desk, there is also an area where traditional items such as the Kompang (flat hand-held drum used in Malay weddings & important ceremonies) & Rebana Ubi (a large drum) is placed as decorations.

There are several pools here at this resort. The deepest pool is suitable for serious lap swimming and was cold (!), while the rest of the pools are more for mucking around and lazy-style swimming. The kids pools were crowded most of the time, but I pretty much had the deep pool all to myself.

There was a bit of debris and sand (probably due to it being the monsoon season when we visited) in the pools, but generally the water was clean enough.

After the swim, be sure to try out the open air jacuzzis which are located right next to the pool. Those are gloriously warm and delicious.

On the grounds of Awana Kijal you will find a giant chess board. I think it would be fun to play a game of chess with your pals and get some exercise moving the chess pieces around. I didn't try it, as I have never learnt to play chess.

As mentioned before, I am really an "occasional" golfer. If you think my long game is bad, then my short game is even worse. Still, when one is practicing on a golf course as scenic as this one, who cares if a few balls miss the cup or fall into the water? LOL

I have tried out the driving range at Awana Kijal Resort a few times. As I am an occasional golfer (like once in every decade!) you had better not get onto this driving range when I'm there. At other times it is pretty safe and fun too! (hehehe)

Once when I was at this driving range, I hit the ball and it actually went flying BEHIND me, rather than infront. I couldn't work out what went wrong. LOL.

Awana Kijal Resort has large grounds that are perfect for a morning or evening stroll with the family. You can walk in and around the swimming pool and gardens area or head for the beach.

With large and mature shady trees everywhere, it stays cool into the late morning. Enjoy the feel of the salty morning breeze blowing through your hair, while keeping an eye out for your young ones.
