I am not entirely expert in Muslim faith. But living in Malaysia, we have high racial tolerance as well as different faith as our way of life.
There are some do and don't in most mosques and gender differentiation is especially strict in states of Kelantan & Terengganu.

Most of the people here are very devoted to Islam, so please be careful in choosing your attire while walking around the state (unless you're on the islands...).
Long/quarter pants...skirts n a decent tops will do while traveling around.
