Marketplace
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is a small outdoor market place down by the docks where you can buy bottle water and some basic food items...

Don't expect that you will find much in the way of cold beers for sale down here, as this is a fairly conservative Muslim area. (Must plan ahead: Boy Scout motto: Be prepared !!!)

Pasar Besar Kedai Payang: Must visit in KT
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's not really a shop. It's actually a market selling so many stuff: clothes, batik n songket (one of Malaysian heritage), n other things as well such as fruits, dried fishes, brassware, local delicacies such as keropok lekor (made from fish) and others.

Batik, the price is really reasonable...always ask for 50% discount. Songket and brassware also cheap here. A visit to Kuala Terengganu is not complete if you don't buy any of those.

Batik around RM450, you can get it around RM200 or lower if you buy a lot. Brassware around RM130-RM200 (there's no way you can get as cheap as that in KL). Songket, around RM180 onwards. Do bargain n check out other shops. Price differs from one shop to another.

it's a huge market smack in the middle of kuala terengganu town.. you can get just about anything there.. from food to crafts..

one souvenir that most ppl, even local malaysians, buy in kuala terengganu in batik.. it's a gorgeous painted cloth where you can make into our traditional malay costumes.. or anything else you wish.. other than that, you can also get some yummy fish crackers.. in malay language, it's called "keropok"..

batik prices ranges from rm50 right up to rm300.. it all depends on the quality of the cloth and the skill involved in painting the batik.. as for ready fried "keropok", expect to pay less than rm1 for a pack..
