How about an after lunch nap in a hammock?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Perhaps it's low season, locals were less busy and got more free time in the day. What's better than an after lunch nap? From my observation on the beach of Flora Bay, I saw at least 10 hammocks with people sleeping inside. What a life?

    Note
You can find hammocks at the shops inside Flora Bay Resort and that one next to Abdul's chalet. It's around RM25 each.

    Tolerance
Perhentian Island Resort is up on the "family friendly" end of the island, but all indices seem to suggest that Tuna Bay Island Resort may well be the gay friendliest beach on Pulau Perhentian Besar. Although mainly heterosexual couples make up the majority of the population at Tuna Bay beach, we happened to notice two couples that bucked the trend, a couple of discreet gay men as well as a pair of lesbian lovers. It's great to see that tolerance is being shown in this very traditional Islamic region of Malaysia, no matter what the orientation, although Pulau Perhentian Besar isn't exactly Fire Island or Mykonos by any stretch.

    Alcohol consumption
Although can be purchased at some resorts, some prefer it not to be consumed at general dining areas.

    Put something on....please!
I saw some people bathing in the nude which made me feel uncomfortable let alone the staff and people who live here. Malaysia is a muslim country and you should respect local traditions. Nude bathing is out, this is a fairly strict muslim area of Malaysia and you won't even find much alcohol available. I'm not sure I understand the mentaility of people who ignore the local communtiy when they go travelling.

    Respect the locals
Remember this is a Muslim country. Most locals may probably doesn't care much on what yo are wearing on the beach up to a certain level of nudiness. So girls, forget topless..as it is a sign of humiliation to the local people. I know the men popping their eyes out seeing half naked women. But the respects goes for the elderly :-) no offence.
