Scuba Diving allows you to explore the marine life. It is incredibly exciting to see the marine life in Perhentian. There are many dive sites and my favourite being the Tokon Laut Site. It is 25 minutes boat-ride away from Perhentian Besar.
I strongly recommend the Sea Horse Dive Centre which provides good service.
Other Dive Sites include :
- Secret Reef
- Tanjung Basi
- Surprise Rock
- D Lagoon
- Dragon Reef
- Vietnamese Wreck
- Shark Point
- Artificial Reef
- Sugar Wreck
- Japanese Garden
- Batu Nison
- Tanjung Buntong
- Seabell Rocks
- Tanjung Sereh
- Batu Layar
- Terumbu Tiga
- Terumbu Dalam
Equipment:
Scuba Equipment. Provided by Dive Centre too.
It's not uncommon to see people playing beach volleyball but it's really funny to see locals playing beach soccer!!! They liked playing tricks, e.g. throwing sand to the opponents, during the game, that really made me laugh!!! : )
The world is made up of 75 percent water and only 25 percent land. You get to see the world on land everyday but how often do you really get to see the other parts of the world underneath?
There is a whole new world awaiting to be dicovered and explored. You will not regret if you have try it. Do it while you can.
Equipment:
Please bring your wetsuit if you plan to scuba dive. I made a mistake and have abrasions on my legs. You can rent the rest of the dive equipment there if you find it a hassle to bring along.
Do not forget your underwater camera if you own one. There are many beautiful corals and fishes for you to capture.
Sunblock is advisable unless you want to get yourself burnt. Hats and sunglassess are encouraged too.
Since I came in the monsoon season, the hotel doesn't open its dive shop. They recommended us to dive in Seahorse Dive Center, beside Tuna Bay Resort.
Tho the visibility wasn't good but I know when it's not monsoon season it's definitely a good dive. I saw turtles, sharks, napoleon wrasses, trigger fish, nudi branch, etc.
Equipment:
It's well equiped, you can rent any of scuba gear there.
April 2007 - We dived with Seahorse Dive Centre, directly to the left of Tuna Bay Island Resort. RM70 (AUD$25) for each dive if you booked 2 or more (this included all equipment and morning tea). No need to book days ahead. Just walk in the day before. Our instructor 'G' was great. She took us to batu nisan, tanjung basi and sugar wreck, all about a 5 min speedboat ride from the SH Dive Centre beach, except for sugar wreck which was 30 mins. In April, P Besar was inundated with jellyfish. Unfortunately they did not have full wet suits, only shorties. We had to wear track suit pants and rashies underneath our shorty to protect us from stings. Visibility wasn't great, between 6-8m. However we sighted the most amazing sea creatures. Eagle rays and another sting ray with an approx. 6 ft wingspan 'flying' along the warm tropical waters so gracefully unperturbed by visiting divers. The wreck was teeming with weird and wonderful marine life and barracuda playing in the strong current. We appreciated the diving and the affordable price made us enjoy it that much more!!
