    Packing For Perhentian

by bkoon Written Aug 30, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: A backpack is advisable as you need to get into the water when you get off the boat. Make sure your bag won't get into the water.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Beach wear please. Slippers are good. Shorts, berms and tees. Long pants may be too much. Anyway, it gonna be hot. Bikinis for ladies and speedos / surf shorts for guys. Bring your sarong too, ladies. You can use it as a wrap-around skirt and even to put on the sand as you sunbathe on it.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Insect repellent. Beware of the mossies in the evening especially. Bring general medical supplies like your aspirin, etc.

Photo Equipment: Underwater camera if you have. If not, a normal camera will do. You will tend to take pictures there.

Miscellaneous: Dive gear if you are diving as rental of dive gear is chargeable sometimes. You can negotiate for a better price if you bring your own. If you are just doing some snorkelling, bring along your snorkel and mask. Fins too if you have.

    Added Advantage

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sun block is essential when sun & sea is your main course for the whole day.

Photo Equipment: If you're running out of photographic theme on land, why don't you try underwater photographic? Mind you, it's not easy because you need to maintain your perfect buoyancy in order to get great shots. Composition of picture is also harder because you tend to think slower underwater.

    Warning:
Make sure you won’t crash into corals as you hold your breath and trying to capture your perfect shot underwater. Your injury is nothing as compare to yearly grow of mere 1cm for those corals.

    Dive Gears

    Dive Gears

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Assuming you manage to register to join one of those dive. These funny looking apparatus will be very important. It enables the slowest creature on earth (human lah) to dive & overcome the out of breath experiences underwater.

Sorry, it’s true that we’re the slowest swim-able thing on earth.

I normally like to bring my personal gears especially those that I bite and wear on. The only thing that I don’t mind renting from dive centre is BCD. Others, no thanks.

Dive Card (the highest will do)

by muddybok Written Aug 17, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Better than Credit Cards!!!

Miscellaneous: Sorry if I make this page sounded too much like an official dive page. But my reason for most islands (except Penang) is mostly for diving & other by the way stuffs.

To ease your dive registration to dive centers, it’s best you have you dive cards along. Not all dive centres have internet access to check you certification over Padi/BSAC site.

If they cannot verify you're in deed a qualify diver, you may not be allowed to dive. So, why take chances?

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Lots of mosquito repellent. Seriously.

Miscellaneous: Bring tonnes of books.. the books they have on "exchange" suck (unless romance / sci fi is your thing) and bring lots of beer from the mainland (Muslim island, little alchohol on sale which increases its demand and prices)
