This is the best place to go at Long Beach if you want to try a variety of local cuisine.
Unlike other restaurants that serve only simple local dishes such as fried noodle, this place offers a great selection of wonderful dishes such as steam fish, sweet and sour chicken, stir-fried beef in red sauce, chicken rendang etc which you'll have with a side of plain rice.
Nice and cozy ambiance and not too crowded.
Price is pretty reasonable too!
Favorite Dish: The chicken rendang is fantastic and since it is one of the local authentic dishes, you should definitely try it.
It's a bit spicy but you'll be occay once you have it with a glass of their delicious mango lassi!!
A nice restaurant with a cozy and islandy mood to it. Funky decorations and a great ambiance for hanging out with friends!
Serves a variety of dishes that ranges from the standard bbq dinner set, to simple local dishes, to lasagna and pizzas !!
There's something for everyone.
Favorite Dish: I just looooove the lasagna and pizza. Was quite surprised since we are all the way on the island in east-coast Malaysia.
Very nicely done with a touch of local flavor.
Served with lots and lots of fries!!
The restaurant is facing the awesome beach couple with great and fresh winds during the day. At night this restaurant is turn into a candle light fine dining (almost) enviroment.
The menu consists of Western to Oriental. quite a number of variety.
You will also notice most of the friendly staffs are Thais as well as the cooks. Be there early to get a table cause by 8.30pm it will be quite filled up.
Favorite Dish: Vegetarian fried rice.
All the cafes and restaurants in Perhentian Kecil have practically the same menu.
Their speciallity is usually the BBQ fish. U can choose from a short list of fish - baracuda, shark (sometimes) sting ray, King Fish ... A set of BBQ comes with your choice of gravy, mix veg, chips/rice and fruits - RM 10 - RM 15
Favorite Dish: My fav is the smooties. It's just what you need on a hot day at the beach. I would really recommend the watermellon smootie and the chocolate banana smootie. Around RM 4 - RM 5
I like the chicken wings there at the Family Cafe. They even have a Japanese waitress who can speak Malay. (She is cute!)
You will be able to enjoy your chicken wings with cold beer on the beach. Especially in the evening.
Its a cosy little cafe-like restaurant with great food. The person in charge, a lady by the name of Miss Lee was very helpful and friendly person, and I enjoyed talking to her alot about the island.
Favorite Dish: I found the best Milkshakes in Cocohut Travel at RM6.50-7 !!!! Its a must try because its just superb. I went there to try every flavour for every meal, painstakingly trekking through the jungle to reach there. The chocolate sneaker milkshake is superb, the mango one is most favourite. Must try the pineaple and water melon too! No regrets! The tomyam soup is nice and serving is generous too. Try it!
There are 2 places on Coral Bay where you can have barbecue for diner and they both serve exactly the same at the same price.
For RM 20, you get
* a barbecued fish (king fish, barracuda, shark, tuna, chicken fish, etc.) freshly fished the same day, or king prawns, or squids, or satay (Malaysian speciality), or what they call sea lobster (which is delicious)
* the sauce of your choice (garlic butter, satay, coconut, curry, etc.)
* one baked potato
* a salad
* 1 slice of watermelon
The atmosphere is very relaxed at night as you eat on tables directly on the beach with some candles. It is magic.
Once again, I prefer the BBQ on Coral Bay compare to the one on Long Beach as it is quieter, cheaper and more relax. But be careful, at 10pm there is no life anymore on Coral Bay...
Favorite Dish: Try out the sea lobster with coconut, you will just love it!
Me and my friends had spent a few days on the island before discovering Matahari. Since discovering it....we didn't go to other restaurants for the duration of our stay. Most other restaurants only offer sandwiches, burgers, fried rice and/or spagetti. But at Matahari, they have great local cusine.
First of all, the food was DELICIOUS! Secondly, the restaurant very cozy and clean. In most restaurant on the island, there is a bit of a waiting time after you ordered before the food is ready. But at Matahari, we found that actually the food came quite fast after the orders has been place.
And the staff were GREAT! They were very friendly, very helpful and very efficient!! The prices were really really reasonable.
Favorite Dish: BTW, I had to agree with dar76.....the chicken rendang was fantastic! So was their milkshakes, their sandwiches and their chicken wings!!
its cheap.. rm15 for a dinner set menu.. choices of fresh seafoods like giant squid, prawn, sharks, barracuda fish mixed with your favourite choices of garlic butter, spicy or yellow coconut sauce, add with choices of rice, jacket potatoes or french fries, and choices of mix vege or salad. Together with fruits and a cup of beverage. and the most important part is, it is right in front of the beach which is the most nicest spot for dinner eventhough it is just a stall plus the waiters there are friendly too..
if you did'nt plan to have bbq for dinner. climb up to mohsin's restaurant. its on a deck on top of the hill. a nice & cosy environment with a free movie show on every each night. try the creamy pasta.. you won't regret...yummy!!!!
No nasi Lemak or kuih muih for breakfast unless u made special arrangement with the well connected people.. LOL..hehehe..For breakfast they have American breakfast ($10) and only if u r lucky u can have mee goreng ($7).
Nasi campur pun takde. Biasanya Malaysian will opt for Nasi goreng ($8 - $12)
Go for barbecue set for $15, Fried Rice ($8 - $12) or enjoy western food like pasta ($12 - $20).
Mineral water (L) - $3.50
Teh Tarik - $3
Smoothies - $6
Ciggie - $1 or $2 xtra per pack
NO dress code here..just enjoy your meal by the beach..
Favorite Dish: If u have barbecue dinner, dont choose King Fish!! Taste like paper. Sucks.
There are alot of restaurants on the beach and they served mostly western food to cater for the tourists..
At night, the restaurants are very crowded as people wants to have the BBQ seafood for dinner.. Dinner cost around RM$15 onwards but food not that fantastic...
This cafe has nice small varandah & low ceiling hut in front of the cafe and it's relaxing...
Just get some cool coconut drink and sip it under the shade..
Enjoy the sea breeze and the sound of breaking waves...
Oh.. if you are sitting in the hut right in front of the beach, be careful, as the waves can wash right up over you... That's why you won't see anyone sitting there...
Service was a bit lousy. Plus we had to wait for a mere 30 minutes for our food to arrive.
Favorite Dish: The food is good. Besides overpriced american food (for us locals), you can also find overpriced local food here. We tried the Nasi Goreng Special (RM9!) or Special Fried Rice which consists of fried rice, chicken tempura, and fish crackers. Try the ice blended, which will really pop ur eyes out. They make it really special here!
If you are going for american breakfast, tunabay resort is your answer. With juice of the day and coffee at your refill, toast, fried rice, scramble egg, ham, baked beans and harsh brown and finally fruits. All the above only at RM15 per pax. Is real enjoyment as New cocohut and the rest of the restaurant along the stretch do not serve american breakfast.
Favorite Dish: Buffet American Breakfast.
I believe they would have higer standard of lunch and dinner, but I do not have time to try them out.
To be honest, the food served is not really fantastic but it can be compromise by the beautiful view it had. The restaurant is just on the beach where we can overlooked the sea while having our dinner. Is a perfect umbiance.
