    Water Sports at Long Beach

There are a few water sports facilities available at Long Beach.

For those who wants to take in the sights in a different way, you can try parasailing or just go kayaking around the island.

If you are interested in a more 'active' sports, check out the booth on the beach that offers wakeboarding, kneeboarding and waterskiing. This booth is ran by Gen's Mini Mart and they also offers banana boat ride.

Equipment: For wakeboarding, kneeboarding and waterskiing, you can go to the small booth ran by Gen's Mini Mart which is located right on the beach (somewhere in the middle).

For parasailing and kayaking, head further down towards Lily Chalet.

    Perhentian Islands and dive sites

Dive operator mainly operated by locals - opposed to the typical Swedish and German divemasters.
They know their dive sites - they're OK!

Equipment: Their equipment is brand new this season (2003). And the air is very good :o)

Diving is good and courses are REALLY CHEAP! So if you plan to get a certificate you can get PADI OWD and AOWD for MYR 1200 all together.
And it's also possible to get a good bargain on the diving if you're an experienced diver.
There are a number of dive operators in the island - just pick one - safety is kind of poor everywhere, but the diving isn't that deep anyway.

Dive Centre - Coral Sky Dive Centre

by bkoon Written Aug 30, 2005

I did 3 dives with Coral Sky Dive Centre. It is a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre and they use PADI instructors only (most use Divemasters). Impressive eh. I had a very good experience diving with Seahorse Dive Centre when I went to perhentian Beasr the previous year and Seahorse's way of leading dives is still better, I feel.

A dive can range from RM60 - RM80 depending on the number of dives you are diving with the dive centre. Mine was RM70 per dive and I did 3 dives. The dive centre provided the equipment.

What I liked most about the Coral Sky Dive Centre was that they canget everything prepared for you. As in, putting the tanks, weights, equipment, etc for you. You just need to bring your equipment on to the boat. Moreover, they serve nice hot cakes after every dive. Yummy... some how I just need the energy boost after every dive and these cakes came in timely everytime. He!

I will be putting down what I saw at the 3 dive sites in the next tips.

    Equipment: Bring your dive gear.

Dive Site : Temple of The Sea aka Tokong Laut

by bkoon Updated Aug 30, 2005

Temple of the Sea (a.k.a. Tokong Laut) is one of my favourite dive sites in the Perhentian islands. The is one of the two MUST-DIVE-SITE (the other one is Twin Rocks). When you descend, you may be able to see very big fishes, etc. If not, the garden like reefs are awesome enough for you to enjoy the one hour or so underwater.

You will get to see Lion Fishes, schools of jacks, baracudas, sea slugs and many hard and soft corals.

    Dive Site : Twin Rocks

I love this this dive site. This is the first time I was so up close and personal with so many bumphead parrot fishes feeding and nesting. I saw like 30-40 of them and they were everywhere. No afraid of any one of us. Saw them chewing on dead corals. Quite amazing.

    Equipment: Dive gear.
