Blue Sand. some thought that this might be some kind of dark glowing sand. some though even thought that this might be sand which in blue in color. But the Redang Bay [one of the nice resorts] workers told us that, it is actually an organism. you can easily found it somewhere near the sea. gently wipe the sand away, and u will discover a sea of blue stars is in front of u......

Out of desperation from doing practically nothing every night, I went to Redang Kalong recreational centre and watched singing wannabes having the time of their life at the karaoke machine!
Not much fun considering that the songs I listened to are not popular hits that I know of because all the songs are in Chinese....
Dress Code: Very, very casual dress code. Slippers are optional.

Background
The open-air terrace just outside the Coffee House at Berjaya Redang Resort serves two purposes. Firstly as an extension to the main Coffee House area when the interior of the Coffee House is full, particularly during dinner and breakfast times on weekends. Secondly as a live music spot where people hang around after dinner to drink, chat and more.
The Live Band
Well, on Fridays and Saturdays, this place comes to life, and it's not just because of the Live Band. But before I get to that, let me tell you more about the live band. It is certainly an attraction in the otherwise quiet & secluded beach of Teluk Dalam. It features a 3-piece band, one on the guitar, one on key boards and back-up vocals and a drummer, but the star of the band is a female vocalist who dresses and looks just like a man. She has blonde hair, that is cropped very short, dresses in a man's shirt, pants, belt and men's shoes, but when she sings, it is clear that she's a woman! I noticed more than a few people going closer to the stage to have a closer look at her, they tried to be subtle but it didn't always work. (hehe)
The band has a good repertoire of English songs, some Mandarin & Hokkien hits, and they play until quite late. (I'm not sure of the exact time because I left to return to my room at midnight.)
Dress Code: The fun begins with the Company you're keeping
However, what I felt really makes the place come to life is the crowd itself. Our group of colleagues, along with some friendly Taiwanese visitors, really enjoyed ourselves. We had taken 3 tables close to the stage where the Band was playing and our new Taiwanese friends were seated at a large table right in front of the stage. (hmmm, now how did they get so close?) Initially, we just hummed along quietly , but a few jugs of beer later, we were singing along loudly (interrupting the vocalist undoubtedly?) at the top of our voices. Some time later, we got 'coerced' into dancing (the joys of alcohol - some guys in our group who were usually very quiet at work, managed to get through 6-8 jugs of beer and the rest of us shared 3 bottles of red wine. ) when a couple of exuberent Taiwanese ladies (see the lady in green t shirt in the pics) took the lead.
P.S. I noticed many Europeans and Singaporean visitors and their kids watching our group in bemusement. (at least we didn't scare them away! haha)
The atmosphere is relaxed and there is no special dress code observed.

For folks staying in Berjaya Beach Resort, save for a Karaoke Bar and an open air Jazz band going on outside the Palms Restaurant, folks coming here sniffing for Full Moon Parties and other wild stuff will walk away highly disappointed. This is afterall, predominantly Islamic Malaysia, folks.
Instead, I will invite you to a concert of the stars. Find a lovely spot, sit on a beach deckchair, look up at the black fabric of cloth above your head and listen to the stellar song of the galaxies, serenaded by the encores of the waves.
It's a concert like no other!

there really isn't much to do. a local attraction at night if a bungalow at the beach of the laguna resort. this bungalow is a merchandise shop at the bottom, with a bar on the top. It is famous for being filmed in a HK movie by Richie Ren and Sammi Cheng. For the musically inclined, there are several karaoke's within the laguna resort and another by a seperate joint by the "bridge"... truly though, the best part of the night is just to kick back, and look at the stars... otherwise, there are few bars, again, one within the laguna resort... i've heard that there is a dance club down the beach from the laguna resort. though i can't honestly tell for sure.. and there is "blue sand" which is apparently a mineral or an organism, again nearby the laguna resort.
Dress Code: casual... at night, it isn't to warm, nor is it too cool. shorts are definetly fitting for the occasion.

Well, this is a very unique thing which I experienced when I was in Redang. Many tourists were in search of the "blue sand" on the beach. Blue sand is actually blue luminious liquid of tiny sea creatures (malay known as sea lice) when "smashed". So, what you have to do is to smear out the sand and you will find some blue sand.
Just ask any local and they will tell you more.

There is karaoke singing at the open-air restaurant bar every night at Redang Reef Resort. It is FREE if you buy a drink or something! It is from 8pm - 11pm. Choose from a limited variety of more popular Chinese and English songs.
Dress Code: Anything goes.

When I was there, there were beach parties with loud and cool music every night. It was fun to dance the night away on the beach as the wind blows and at the same time chilling out with a can of cold beer.
Music and disco lighting starts at around 8pm and people will dance dancing only later.
Dress Code: Anything goes.

Those that printed in the pictures are not ghosts. But no guarantee that there are none of that kind among us. Just try to scare you.
We just turn the shuttle speed to "B" for awhile.
Oh! What is the point of the picture? We're just hanging out by the beach, may be due to the quality beach & we have not had enough of it during day time.

Address: Pulau Redang!!
There are are some options along Pasir Panjang - you could check out one of the many hotels with loud music blaring. Or you could just do nothing and watch the stars.
In any case I found it was really nice to go walking bare feet in the cool sand at nights. All the way from the Coral Redang to the Laguna resort. Bring a torch light!
I don't have any night time shots, and am attaching a photo of the Laguna resort (which will be lit up quite brightly at night). It is quite a commercial resort - many people have protested its construction but many have also defended its efforts in maintaining the surrounding environment and ecosystem.
