Take it easy in the Highlands

by urbangorilla

Rarely can you escape the heat in South East Asia which makes the cool (although still very humid) Cameron Highlands fairly unique. You can do plenty of nice rainforest walks here, from easy strolls to gruelling climb's. The many surroundings hills covered in tea plantations make interesting day trips. Overall, a nice place with clean air to kick back for a while. It's not exactly off the beaten path but access is only possible from the west side of Malaysia (e.g. KL). It's a long steep bus ride that boats 360 hair-pin turns.

Explore the Bat Sh*t Cave

by jenny

While in Taman Negara National Park, we decided to hike to the Bat Cave and explore it. Without a guide. It turned out to be a very slippery, dirty and dark experience. We saw 100 of bats, the size of big mice, hanging upside down over our heads as we climbed through the caves. The rocks were so slippery from bat droppings, that the climbing actually turned oyt to be quite dangerous. When we came back, we were told that we had been lucky, not to encounter the white venoumous snakes that lived in the cave. Despite all our attempts to clean them, the only long pants we had with us, bore the marks of bat sh*t for the rest of our trip through Malaysia and Singapore...

Fresh Mangoes

by clsan

It is not surprise if most of you especially from countries that grow mangoes have seen the mango trees. But how many of you actually get to pluck it fresh from the trees when most of us were grown up in this concrete jungle.Mangoes farm in Sekinchan is a good choice for your to explore fun like this. In addition, they grow small number of dragon fruit as well. So why not drive down to Sekinchan to check it out yourself? But before you start your engine, check when there are plentiful of fruits you're seeking for. Don't go and come back empty handed!

Sekinchan - Paddy Fields

by clsan

Check out the paddy fields and witness one of the most spectaculars scene in this remote area. If you like to be there to see cultivation or harvesting, make sure you're there on the right time.To get there:Just follow the coastal road start from Sungai Buloh to Kuala Selangor bypassing Tanjung Karang before you reach Sekinchan. It is about 2 hours drive.

Bako National Park

by AndreSTGT

In the state of Sarawak, north of Kuching, this national park is one of the most beautiful and amazing regions i've ever been to. One of the few places in the world where rain forest meets the ocean. A seven hour marked trail (bring plenty of water!!!) leads you through some of the typical vegetations of the park. Swamps, verdant rain forest, savannah and picturesque coastline with deserted white-sand beaches. You're likely to see proboscis monkeys and lizards on the way.Last visit : May 1995

Damai Beach

by AndreSTGT

Damai is a pleasant beach resort at the foot of Santubong mountain north of Kuching. There are two hotels, a really lovely beach and some good hiking trails in the nearby mountain jungle, if you're lucky you'll come across a magnificent swimming hole in the forest where you can refresh. All in all a really nice place for a short beach recreation.Last visit : May 1995

Kuching

by AndreSTGT

The capital of Sarawak is one of my favorite cities in Malaysia with colorful markets, a beautiful new river promenade, and the Sarawak National Museum, one of the most fascinating museums in the world, depicting the culture and way of life of the jungle tribes of Borneo.
