Travel as light as possible!

by ant1606

We both traveled all the way with one mountain backpack each, sized to fit carry-on aircraft boarding. Best if waterproof.Malaysia is a shopping heaven for convenient prices will dictate to buy stuff, and prior to return we bought a bag to be checked-in.For certain places such as Taman Negara National Park, we discourage to bring hard cases or huge luggage. Getting there requires a 3-hour longboat ride and it's advisable to avoid such equipment. Local weather is warm and requires light clothes, best if they provide UV protection. Hat recommended. Hiking boots or shoes are recommended for jungle treks.Occasional downpours occur in summer, we brought compact raincoat overalls.Plastic bags can be useful to protect cameras, wallets and travel documents. Carry some in your pocket as downpours can get you totally drenched, our boat ride to Taman Negara was such an occasion. Anything can be...

Shoes

by Janemei

Shoes are really cheap in Malaysia especially fashion/seasonal women shoes. Especially slippers, sandals and open toe heels. So if you have average sized feet 6-7, you should leave your shoes at home because you'll be stocking up here in Malaysia. But 8 sized feet will find that they will get some massive reduction on the shoes for their size because it is less popular in malaysia.

An SLR camera is a good to have in Malaysia

by Fudge

Film and battery for cameras are easily available and relatively cheao in Malaysia. But do stock up from the cities before you hit the out country places. Also, i've met travellers who have bought digital cameras in Malaysia and other thumb drives for storage of pics etc... Malacca is a nice place to take pics of historical things - the fort, the temples, the shrines all in the city area.

Tampons are hard to find......

by Designerartgirl

Bring something you can carry.... Flip flops/ sandals are always good atire as you'll no doubt be taking them off in many places, or trainers for the places where you need to cover up a little more....... Dont bring too much, but things that cover shoulders and knee's will mean that local people will show you a lot more respect!! If you wear a mini skirt and skimpy top in town, they will think of you as a tart..... Tampons are so hard to find if you go off the beaten trail in Malaysia. If you stick to touristy places you'll be fine, no problems but if you go into places such as the centre of the country, ie, near Temerloh, you could have a problem finding them, as Asian women dont tend to use them.... Digital Camera... and rechargable bateries... you can write all your pictures to disk in many places throughout the country so dont worry about running out of memory space...

Don't pack

by l_joo

Look at the picture, this is the thing you might want to pack. My opinion for tourists is to bring just a small lightweight bag but with pocket full of money. I believe we have EVERYTHING you needed. Malaysia is a country materials rich, tourists need not worry about packing.

It's hot

by einstienng

something light some cool clothings.. No winter wear. It's hot all year round Easily available, unless u got medicine from doctor films and batteries are available all over the place. If digital, bring more memory cards not really suitable unless u are hitting the beaches. weather is hot here. Get Tee or bemudas.

by dragontml

pack light and you might want to consider bringing an empty suitcase for all the souvenier that you might end up buying while in Malaysia ! or you can just buy a suitcase here ! comfortable shoes, hat, sun block, sunglasses can be easily found at our local Guardian / Watson outlets at reasonable price films and batteries are not too expensive here...a varierty of digi cam too... can be found here at special outdoor shops...

Mosquito Repellent, Sun Block, Medicines

by JoanPhua

Lock?Name Tag? Some cold place, like Genting, Cameron, Mt Kinabalu, and all the beaches to prepare Weather Gear, and more clothing. It should not be a problem in getting them around the city, but one should prepare some in case. To have immunization is better. To develop pic in not cheap. The Film itself is very expensive especially in tourists place. Can rent it.

Clothing

by keeweechic

Light, cool and casual clothing is recommended all year round. Shorts, miniskirts, sleeveless garments for women are not advisable, especially in the rural areas. and when visiting Mosques and temples. Comfortable walking shoes. In the Highlands, warm comfortable clothing is recommended, especially during the night when it is much cooler.

Just in case...

by Rice_Paper

Sandals or good walking shoes. There's only 2 season in Miri, RAINY AND SUNNY. heheheheheh. And when it's sunny, it's HOT. So, drink lots of liquids. You might not adapt well to the food here sometimes, especially if you can't resist the food sold by hawkers in the street. So, bring any antacid or Pepto just to be safe. Suncreen or a hat, cap, etc. And also, make copies of your passport, credit card, etc...just in case...well, as an season traveller will know, this is prolly a no brainer tip. hehehehhe
