Back pack light.. and still everything necessary to survive nights at 3500m above sea. I know it sound a bit like an oxymoron but that's just it. T-shirt, shorts, slipper as long as it's rivers and jungle. Sturdy boots, raincoat, jacket and jumper when it's mountainclimbing. Aspirin by the lot for the Karaoke nights or rather the day after.. Actually anything supporting instant recovery and restoration a to normal and sociable state. I had mine but the pics you'll see are ALL I've managed.. A mosinet would have been a treat but was dumped from my list for bulkyness. Some would have brought SupaSpidaKilla if they'd known. Oh yeah sleeping bag too though I lost mine at the longhouse along the way... so I had to make do with my towel..ha ha take first aid course to be in the know when it's Karaokenights!

Backpack is the best, if you move from place to place. Mosquito-net needed, if you go on the country side. Malaria medication is needed(especially Sabah is one of the worst malaria areas in the world). There are lot of small medical.centres, so you get almost all the medics there.

Winter clothes is not necessary. Just a normal sweater will do. Make sure you have toilet paper with you especially for those loo that didnt charge ! Yeah, some of the toilet charge for using it. Where to get the FOC and clean toilet? Besides loos in hotels, the best and FOC loo with hair drying and baby shower facility are the toilets inside Mid Valley Shopping Centre, KL. Mossie Repellent if you're going outskirt especially remote areas.

I brought one Wheely bag which was half emply and also contained a canvas bag rolled up in it. The more I have traveled, the less things I bring on the road. BUY CLOTHES THERE. Bring some essentials (i.e., shoes, underwear) but if you but things there, you come home with more souvineers and clothing is usually quite inexpensive. They have GREAT Batik shirts in Malaysia. I found everywhere in Malaysia to have a mixture of Muslum and 'western' toilets.

I can only say, don't bring too much! You can buy almost everything along the way. My mistake was to bring too much clothes. You don't need that, you probably want to buy some also and then you don't use your clothes from home anyway. If you only go to smaller cities or villages in Malaysia you may want to bring tampons. I discovered they don't sell them in some places. Too bad if you want to swim and it's that time of the month...

Malaysia is generally a summer country with rain in between. So you can leave your winter clothing at home. Summer wear or beach wear is all you have to bring. Sun block lotion for the beach. Malaysia use AC 220/230v power supply, so prepare any adaptor for your electrical appliance that require 110v.

I was staying in hotels, so it's okay to bring big suitcases (big ones if you intend to buy a lot). Also bring a back pack to carry when you go out. It is good to have an internal pocket to keep your money in. Hot weather, a lot of humidity. But don't let the hot weather fool you... I came home with a bad cold. Although the outside was hot, inside was very cold. All shopping centers and hotels have a massive cooling system. Bring a buttoned sweater to wear inside. Bring trousers for evenings, because of mosquitos - also put on some sort of a anti-mosquito cream. I used Mygga roll-on, it was very effective, I didn't get bitten at all, nor did the other people who were with me (who also used it). Bring a lot of shorts and skirts (if you're a female). You can leave your coat at home, but bring a lot of tops and T-shirts. Don't bring many shoes like I did. The first thing I did was to buy...

As Malaysia's climate is sunny almost year round, light clothing is ideal. It is advisable for ladies, when entering mosques and temples, to wear long sleeves and loose pants or long skirts In the event you need medical care, there are private clinics in most towns. It is a good idea to take out a medical insurance before you travel as Malaysia does not have reciprocal health service agreements with other nations. For over-the-counter prescriptions, there are pharmacies and 'Chinese medical halls'
